Hi

I posted here a couple of weeks ago about nathe snaffles, my horse really likes it but I've been told i shouldnt really hack out in one incase anything happens! I've tried wrapping her metal bit in sealtex which she was better in but she chewed it so much it was really loose and if i would been riding much longer i think it would of come off so much she would of swallowed it! Shes had happy mouths before but she doesnt really like them, does anyone have any ideas?

I love my Nathe french link (as does my horse!) but also feel that perhaps it's not safe for hacking, especially alone.

I use the happy mouth with peanut roller for hacking alone but would also be interested to hear of an alternative.

Sorry for being thick, but why do you think they aren't safe for hacking? Is it because the horse is strong?
I use a Myler comfort snaffle, it has little bits of copper in them and my horse loves it!

I'm being thick too... why wouldn't they be safe?! They have steel cable running through the core, and are tough as old boots - I've never known one break under any circumstances.

Hacked all over in mine no worries, can't see why you wouldn't risk it.

Far more likely for the leather on your bridle to give way I'd think.

As long as you check the nathe occasionaly to make sure the rubbers still intact you're fine.

No the horse isnt strong partucularly but i was just told i shouldnt hack in it as she is quie spooky and things, i wasnt sure why it wouldnt be safe myself to be honest, i think its just incase i go for a canter or anything in which case she can be a bit strong, ill give it a go hacking out in! Thanks

You can get the nathe bits with a variety of cheeks if you needed something stronger

Wldnt worry about them not being safe!!! They are made very strongly with a metal cable running through the middle! I use one for eventing, and have no concerns with it at all.

Mine has white cord running through it. Is there metal inside the cord? It doesn't feel like it.

Is yours one of the Neue schule versions? If so not sure how they are made, but the Nathe ones defiitely have a copper wire through the middle

Thats what makes them expensive apparently!!! Either way, if your horse chews through abbit that quickly out on a hack, it needs its teeth doing and the bit adjusting in its mouth!!!

Its not about her chewing thorough i think its more to do with stopping if anything did happen, mine is a proper nathe and you can jut see the metal where the bit rings are. They do lieterally bend in half!
