Soggy 2nd weekend in September plans

As no one has posted yet, what are people up to this weekend? Have already seen some events cancelling due to the Queen's death (RIP her maj), not sure how much of an impact it will have on those out and about...

My 9yo did a light schooling session this morning, was a v good boy, and then will hack tomorrow. I'm then off on holiday for a week on Monday so he'll have ten days off.

My head was in another place so I cancelled my planned jump session for 1st thing this morning and went for a plod out.
Probably pootle tomorrow, then heading to Southern Breed show on Sunday as it's been confirmed it is definitely going ahead, as a tribute.

I managed to dislocate my shoulder a little last week, so I've had to cancel all plans. I'm hoping to at least hop on this weekend, but I don't think my shoulder's up to heaving a saddle around so will probably just pootle bareback.

(Everyone's assumed I knackered it doing something Exciting and Horsey. Nope. I slept on it a bit weird. Welcome to old age, I guess.)

Hacking and a Trec PTV practise sessoon for us this weekend. As it was forecast to be dry I was hoping for a pub ride but now need to check it'll be open still (no idea if this will be affected) so the ride might become a tea and cake hack instead!

Had had a lesson booked, cancelled it, but turns out it wouldn't have gone ahead anyway...

Think I might go get myself lost on the Downs in my own thoughts this weekend, on foot, no ears, sadly.

Being a spectator to OH doing a duathlon tmrw - which seems fair enough as he comes to so many of my horsey outings! Quiet one Sunday pootling around the yard.

Recently joined a RC and have gone full tilt and am entering a BRC dressage qualifier. Having done 3 tests on Bertie so far ?. Not expecting to be competitive as I think it’s a high standard but it’s good for me to have goals and am hoping it will be a good experience!

Also got Finnegan the guzzler a new slow hay feeder, trying out the eazigrazer which seems pretty robust and has few parts for him to bash about. He knew instantly that it was supposed to hold hay as I couldn’t get his nose out when I was securing it in his stable!!

Had a lesson this morning, there was no suggestion it should be cancelled. Surely life has to go on? There are so many opportunities to show respect, I would prefer to let individuals make their own choice.

I am done for this year really. Young H is having a break to mature. I had my dressage lesson with a new trainer last night (despite the sad news and a thunderstorm) and was quite sad we are stopping for the time being, as he went the best he ever has done.

He didn't used to see the point in circles, so we just did low key fun/socialising type stuff this year, but at RC camp we found a fabulous dressage trainer who really 'gets' us. At came she installed more go, last night we got lateral suppleness. Once he got that, his trot especially seemed to unlock and was very powerful; and loose. It was nice before, but this was on another level. Opened my eyes, for sure!

I was half tempted to take him on a local hound exercise tomorrow but, TBH, he is at a fabulous place to stop right now, confident, going well etc etc and if we had an upset at hound exercise, we would have to stay in work to work it out.

I have to wait for the farrier to pull shoes, so may go for the odd hack whilst we wait, but essentially that is it for a bit.

Hack tonight, lesson tomorrow and hopefully a hack on Sunday. Plus, getting everything ready for the breed show, we set off on Thursday and it's at a different venue to our usual one, so I'm staying in my trailer and no elec hook up. Plus, with the weather finally turning I'll need to pack warm things for both of us! So there's a lot to plan and pack this time, too much to do it all on Thursday and then travel so a busy weekend for me.

Hopefully I'll be at Cornbury on Sunday - currently looks like it is all going ahead, albeit they aren't showing the live stream (just recording it for later publication). They are having to tow lorries onto the site though, so hope that it doesn't turn into a total swamp!

I have to say, and it is with no disrespect to the feelings of others, but I have absolutely no emotional response to this week's news. I've been in so many bizarre conversations at work about where people can/can't sign online condolence books, and placing QR codes at office front desks to ensure that people get directed to the right intranet condolence page.... it's all feeling a bit hysterical and I can't really get on board.

No horsey plans this weekend. (Glad to give Tali time off after her kick anyway.)
We left on our first abroad holiday in 7 years since we bought our first house and so far it’s been a fair disaster but we have managed to finally get to Italy, a day late and at great expense. If all our bad luck has run out we should be at the F1 tomorrow and Sunday.

Mums picking me up tomorrow to go to the yard and sort out my boxes and drawer for the winter and to make space for my winter feed.
Sunday my dad and I are going to pick up all my winter feed (I bulk buy) and get it stored away and it means that should they come in before I’m fully operational that everything is labelled and in an easy place for my dad to get to ?

After last week's dressage excitement, back to galloping around the countryside now we've finally had rain.

Was meant to be autumn hunting tomorrow however that has cancelled with yesterday's sad news.
We are going on a 10 mile fun ride on Sunday though and looking forward to letting off steam on some good ground ?

If my shorter leathers arrive so I can rediscover my fold after 4 years without jumping, more of this. He's already spotting his fences and getting cocky about the height and trying to take over on the approach, and that was his first try over poles. So back poles and added height will be the order of the day for our next session. Maybe even a double ?

Our weekend started early with a trip to our dressage trainer yesterday. Groom-in-training (aka my OH) came along but forgot to video ?, which was a shame as Chilli went the best he’s gone to date. Much more relaxed with just one blip when he thought we’d finished.

I’ve started following the TRT method so a bit of groundwork today, then tomorrow we’re hacking with Indio and his loaner, then Indio is coming home with us as his loaner is having to give him up. I have mixed emotions as it will be nice to have him back but I really don’t have time for two - hopefully I can find someone to share or loan him again.

I had a lovely last hack with Indio’s loaner today, then he joined Chilli in the lorry home. He’s only been off his loaner’s yard a couple of times in the last three years so was a tad surprised to be asked to load up.

He was very affectionate back at my yard, I’d forgotten how he licks you like a dog. He was a bit confused when I turned him out as the yard bought a new field a couple of years ago and he’d not seen it before.

I think he approves!

Lottie has gone on a 3 day hacking holiday in the Welsh mountains with her sharer. Feedback is she is feeling extremely fit and has not put a foot wrong. She’s one of those horses on top of that mountain!

A bittersweet weekend - the horse I had to sell in June due to my health has just won the 2* at Cornbury. I always knew it was a special horse and if they keep it sound it will go 4* and though I am chuffed for new owners I am also feeling sorry for myself as that was my dream.
I rode her fat sister today and told her that the expectations were high. Luckily the little TB has kept me cheery and done an amazing job at his first ever grids. Didn’t have a single pole.

Drove off in thick fog 1st thing, came home littered with frillies, in sunshine.
B was exemplary in the whp, winning 2 classes and taking championship, v happy.
Also wandered our way through P12 and picked off 3rd. They lost my w&t sheet, so left them head scratching.... didnt stay for open ridden as I was pooped, as was B.
A lovely outing as a tribute to our late Queen, who was duch a staunch supporter of the breed.

Thanks, first two phases weren't quite to plan - but we had a lovely spin xc... And that's all that really matters ?
