So, we did yet another workup on the big man yesterday - ongoing issues since a 2yo. And this time we found;
Possible narrowing at c5/6
Major change to right hock
Structural issues front right hoof (plus an abscess)

The neck x rays are off to Edinburgh for a 2nd opinion but I'm not optimistic. I'm half shocked, half vindicated as I've had a gut feeling about wobblers since day one. He is the loveliest, most trainable, most affectionate big horse you could find. He gets comments about his looks wherever he goes. I bought him as a foal, backed him myself and hoped he would see me into my 50's. To avoid the behaviour issues and soundness issues which can come with a ready made horse. Well, we got to 6 and he's been everything - except sound. I was even hoping it might have been pssm! Not to be. I can't even think about putting a bullet into that handsome head at the moment. I'm 40 next week; happy birthday eh?

Sorry, I just had to write it down somewhere.

I am sorry. It's heartbreaking when a young horse with it's whole life ahead of it has such a devastating diagnosis. I really feel for you.

Happy 40th for next week. xx

I'm very sorry I've been in a similar position and it was heartbreaking. I still can cry about it nearly 14 years later if I think too much about it.

Oh that is shyte :( So sorry.

Happy to compare wobbler notes of it would help. It isn't fun to watch if they suddenly get a lot worse one day.

I know exactly how you feel (I was 40 last year). I also bought a just backed youngster pre 40th Birthday / Christmas / Honkia / Divali / Easter / Ramadan & Eid ! - seeing that I lost my older horse with 'issues'. I thought this one was going to see me out my years riding. I even specifically wen t for something lighter in the leg to avoid leg and hood issues !!!

Since owning, I've had 2 years clear and then end of last year and now nothing but vets bills! Now we are treating Proximal Suspensory in both hinds -however, I don't understand how this horse can have it when he's only been in bubble wrap and loved and gently ridden and hacked (see vet thread).

So like you, vet been out and noises made by vet along the lines of 'what am I going to do with him....' and I'm thinking 'what you getting at ?'...

I cant think about having to PTS, as when I look at his big head, that has attitude, you wouldn't think there is anything wrong with him. My heart just sinks.

I'm so sorry. Similar happened to me with mine. I boughtmine as a youngster, never really got him going and lost him at 6, just as we had started to do things. I was devastated at the time and I do still miss him dearly, but I ended up with my current horse, who is actually better suited to me. I worship the ground he walks on and I have never enjoyed having a horse quite as much as I enjoy having him.

Feel for you, I really do. My mare is only 7 and has a list a mile long of 'issues'. I hid on my 40th and sulked - but actually as a decade goes it isn't too bad!
