Ive been waiting for a few weeks to annouce this, but you may remember my Inuit, Dante, had severe separation anxiety. Well, we took a gamble and got an 18 month old Alaskan malamte bitch, Amber, and it paid off. No more eating my house, no more whining when Im out of view, doesnt follow me etc etc. Thats the good news
Anyway, we got her on saturday and she fell into season on the wednesday (i wanted to get her spayed and we didnt know she was due her season so early, Dante couldnt be neatured earlier as one of his testicles hadnt dropped, now it has, my vet still didnt want to neatur him until he was 1 year old., he's 7½ months old now)
I have been watching them like a hawk. She's day 15 now, but I havent let them out my sight, even if Ive popped upstairs for 2 seconds I separate them. He is crated when I go out (he has also stopped messing too which is a big step for him). They are also seperated at night, basically were only together when supervised. I was trying so hard to be a responsible dog owner.
I came home from my mums the other night to find my husband had 'forgotton' to watch them and they had been in the garden for an hour alone, my neighbour says she's 80% sure he may of got her (mounted, willy out alot etc, no tying though)
Now Im worried she's pregnant. The last couple of days there;s been no mounting and they have lost interest (although it was her with the interest not him, she kept mounting him)
Please please do not jump on me, I know it was very irresponsible of my husband and we have had one mega row about it. I never wanted to bring an unwanted litter into this already overpopulated dog world, that is why we got Amber from a rescue as we wanted to save an unwanted dog.
How can I tell if she is pregnant? When is the earliest I can tell? I have heard about aborting pups and spaying at the same time, but Im not sure on this as my views on abortions in humans are very strong.
Im stressing about this so much I cant sleep at night. Im trying not to worry as I have only just got over a second bout of post-natal depression.
God its almost making me cry writing this as Im so worried everything will think Im a really bad owner. :-(
