Some may know Little Cob tied up (Azotoria) a couple of months ago. He was living out 24/7 and was worked nice and steady before he tied up - we don't know how/why it happend.

Weeks of box rest (field rest didn't work, too hilly), then very gentle steady and controlled return to work, all fine.

This week we got the all clear to start treating like normal. He's been on Shape Up (because it has natural selenium and Vit E), salt added to his feeds, salt licks, and electrolytes, and he's living out 24/7.

He's been hacked out once since getting the all clear and it wasn't strenuous.

Since then he's been lame. Vet said don't panic, as muscles aren't hard/spasaming treat as a tweak. But, he's getting worse :(. Farrier came today to trim his feet: LC has brilliant feet as a rule, but he's squared off a huge section of his off-hind hoof because he's been dragging it. Farrier couldn't figure out which leg he was really lame on as action is now so wonky :(, though possibly it's the near hind, high up.

This is the pony that in the three and a half years we've owned him has never been sick nor sorry. He's a lovely lad and it's sad to see him like this. D1 is holding her chin up, but it's wobbling now :(:(

Vet is coming out tomorrow evening.

So, any spare thoughts and/or ideas much appreciated.

So sorry to hear this, fingers crossed you get to the bottom of it soon. I'm well aware of the problem of not knowing what's wrong xxxxxxxx

A friends horse had azotoria just the once but I do know the raised enzymes or whatever the marker is, was extremely high. It took while for these levels to return to normal.

No sooner was she given the all clear, she went lame. This ended up being laminitis that the vet put down to the azotoria.

I hope Little Cob's problem is something straight forward and fixable.
Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

MM have you considered it may be his back? My WB drags his hind when his back is out and the tying up may have caused a tenseness in his back. Hope he is feeling more his normal self before too long.

((((((((vibes)))))))) for LC
((((((((hugs)))))))) to you and D1.
Hope you get some answers soon and can help him get back to his old self.

get well vibes.... have u tried saracens relieve, its very good feed for horses that tie up.

Hope all will be well and nothing too serious. Lots of thoughts for you all for tomorrow and fingers crossed.

Well I'm trying again.........
I do hope L.C. improves and you get to the bottom of this soon.
There's always something!

I keep losing t'interweb connection! 3rd time lucky!

More Thank yous.

Thank you for the feed suggestion. Saracens recommended Shape Up (Dizz is on the Releave) as LC is a good-doer. The Shape Up gives the benefits without weight gain. It worked well. I'll speak to Saracen again though.

Laminitis. That's a thought. His stance and action don't look laminitic, but I'll definately put it to the vet. Thank you.

His levels were very high (1800), but had dropped to normal range before we started work again. We kept him on box rest a few days longer just to be sure. Maybe it wasn't long enough. Will talk to vet this evening. Thank you.
