Decided to start a new thread as things have moved on from Kennel cough and lungworm now :( took my spaniel back to vets today as there's been no improvement and a slow decline. She developed pale gums today. After having a good feel of her tummy and a listen to her heart my vet decided to do blood tests then announced he wants her to have a scan for tumours :( he obviously felt something out of place in her tummy although didn't say anything but the whole time he was feeling she was whimpering and huffin :( in pieces at the moment but really hoping the scan shows nothing. So please can my girl get some vibes . She's only 9 ( it was her birthday Tuesday)
 
thankyou all :) i have had her pretty much ever since she was born. i banked on a few more years yet so im going to be watching that screen like a hawk :( heres her ladyship

Get your vet to consider Bronchitis .

Twelve months ago my ESS was very ill with the same symptoms. As he has arthritis and on anti inflammorts we thought that he had an ulcer. It was only after X-rays did we find out what was happening. He spent 3 days at the Royal Vet College and was on steroids etc for a while.
He was also treated for Lung worm.

He is 10 years old and is now running around like a 2 year old.

Is your dog insured.
 
Also another who went through this- thought lung worm turned out to be pneumonia- in a Newfoundland which is quite bizarre. Took long term anti biotec to cure it.
They scanned her to looking for tumors that was when the saw the fluid in lungs.

Thankyou all again. The vet spent a good 5 mins palpating her abdomen before announcing she needed a scan to check for tumours so assuming he thinks he felt something suspicious although he didn't say he did. Will throw everything I have at this but ONLY if it's the right thing for my baby girl

Well we're just back from vets. There are 2 fluid filled lumps on her liver but the vet is far more concerned about her heart. Her abdomen is distended with fluid and her heart is very fast and irregular . My vet is shocked that only last night holly was still chasing pheasants and tennis balls :) If ,as she suspects , it's cardiomyopathy then the prognosis isn't brilliant but we're now waiting for a referral to a cardiologist
 
She's at the cardiologists now . I watched the heart ultrasound and she has 2 enlarged chambers and her murmur is much larger now due to a leaky valve. She's staying at least tonight but possibly til Monday. After I left they had more tests planned including an X-ray and an ECG. She'll be started on Iv medication overnight then if all goes well be changed to tablets. She's not out of the woods yet but she's in the right place :) waiting for the vet to call with an update
 
Just heard from vet, the sedative they gave her for the X-ray has done her the world of good , her breathing has become easier and her heart rate has slowed from 240 beats/ min to just over 100. The X-ray showed alot of fluid in her lungs so that will hopefully start to clear with the diuretics. The injection she had this morning had already made her lose .6 of a kg
 
Having lost my dog of a lifetime at 4yrs old I know exactly how you feel, its devastating, your photos of your dog show what a beautiful girl she was and was much loved. You did all the right things and gave your girl a fighting chance so you were a very responsible owner. Thinking of you. xx
