Yeah, that seems understandable.
I usually go out walking with one dog on a lead in each hand. If I let Tysie off if it's well away from roads etc but I don't let Bryony off the lead yet at all, and if I ever do, she'll have her muzzle on, as a precaution rather than anything else.

only issue i have with muzzles is that if your dog got attacked she couldnt defend herself...

My exxtremly lovely/well mannered spaniel got annoyed with this stupid woman's dog who kept running accross the field and kept jumping on her head etc.... she had no control over her dog at all - i kept walking away from the dog.... shouted accross "she will bite"... still woman stodd there shouting like a mong.....

my dog eventually pinned this stupid dog down (didnt bite it) and then it ran off.... woman gave me adirty look... whos fault was that?

another one.... my almost deaf (and very ignorant) BC ran upto 2 terriers on lead... he was off and i didnt see them.... he went to say hello and got jumped on......totally my fault... i couldnt appologise enough to the owners of the terriers.... i felt awful!

so yeh basically if you have your dog under control on a lead (mine was btw...in the first bit!)! hers off..... and idiots like above let theirs upto yours - sorry but they only have theirself to blame.....

;-)

Pitbulls are small.

No one seems to understand that they are a medium breed way smaller than Bryony.

She is quite obviously to me and American bulldog mix.

There is not a single characteristic to me that says pitbull.

Don't worry hun i got accused of Abe my Australian shepherd being a pitbull the man about **** himself when he saw us out with an actual pitbull.

Can I see some pics of your Pitbull? Sounds silly but I imagine a large staff in my head now, is that the kinda thing?

Thats all well and good but it doesn't work like that.
Its the OP that will end up with a dead dog when she is reported for having a "dangerous dog" that attacked their dog.

OP i think you are doing the right thing and a grand job of it too.

I can't post pictures of him right now. We have legal issues on our hands. The original owner was a well known dog fighter. He is also a BYB dream. Horrible conformation and not to type at all.

But i can show you a couple of pictures of what pits are suppose to look like.

Oh nightmare, sorry I didn't realise. Hope things go your way!
Couldn't see the pics you put up, but I'll just stop being lazy and google it!

Oh I see them now! They do not look anything like the ones I just googled...

Yeah i am imagining you got the over exaggerated badly bred monster looking dogs. Those are not pitbulls. They usually have some English bulldog or frenchie bred in.

Sorry it spoilt your walk, the chap's obviously clueless as by having the dogs under control on lead & Bryony muzzled its clear sign you're a responsible owner not typical status dog chav and i bet he wouldn't of had the guts to comment if you had.

OP Dont worry about it. Your dogs were under control. I hate it when idiots let their dogs come up and sniff my dog. She does not respond well to it and protects me which is why she is on the lead until we are away from other dogs.

Its not the dogs I worry about its the owners. My scottie has been bred to be totally loyal to her owner as its one of the characteristics of the breed and I would never discourage that but will keep her out of getting herself into trouble if I can LOL!

I can understand people thinking a particualr breed is another, esp if they resemble another (hope that makes sense) but to get up in your face like that for no good reason when she was restraiend and muzzled is pig ignorant, I would have told him to kiss my arse and do one:p

I bet he would have thought twice about approaching a chav with a one out of control and running amoc:mad:

Alove;y little DDB x something or other :D

You should see the looks I get for having a JRT in a muzzle. I WISH people would think she was dangerous then they;d stop having sympathy for her and trying to pet her! I have the muzzle on BECAUSE people pet her...

Eurgh, there are words for people like that. He's probably on some village committee somewhere, spending his days sticking his unwanted nose into other peoples business. I'm not surprised you were wound up, the sheer audacity of it would have pushed me well over the edge into 'foaming-at-the-mouth midget' mode.

Do agree that the fact that you're young and female, and on your own, probably gave him the courage to puff himself up with righteous indignity and stalk over to you. I'm yet to experience a 'telling off' to that degree, but as a 5"2, 24 year old (who looks more like 17 :() I get all sorts of ignorant comments about walking a GSD that I probably wouldn't get if I were a large bloke. Mostly from middle aged men for some reason.

And yet the nastiest dogs where I walk are the JRTs and other small breeds. Usually off lead and 3 miles ahead of their owner. One day I will honestly lose my patience and boot one down the hill.

I hope he feels very proud of himself for bullying a young woman on her own. Perhaps if you had been with a big, burly man - he would have kept his trap shut.

I was walking my 9 stone Inuit and my elderly GSDx home from Sainsbury's one day.

Salem (inuit) had his rucksack on and was helping carry the shopping. A couple (in their 60s) were walking along the pavement towards us. The woman started to steer out of our way to pass us. The man actually pulled himself off his wife's arm and walked straight into Salem who promtly sat down for a stroke. The man kept walking into Salem, pushing him backwards and shouting, "Move move" at him......???

I have no idea why this happened as we were just minding our own business!

Some people are just plain weird.......

I find this thread rather sad, as it's symptomatic of the fear that is prevelent in our society due to a lack of realistic legislation which has allowed an influx of unsuitable breeds into domestic situations.

Rather than realise the concerns the old man has, and his obvious need to express them however misplaced they may be, the first reaction of most people is to slate him for being off his head. That, also, is a symptom of our fragmented society.

katielou houston...I'm sure your dogs are very correct for the breed, and have been carefully bred to a show standard by well-balanced, responsible and informed people. However, they look no more able to bait a bull in a pit than does a ferret.

The dogs which are causing all the fear over here are very different to yours, being bred not for looks but for savagery, and by those who don't care what a dog looks like as long as it can do the business. In most instances, they bear little resemblance to yours.

Yeah, I will slate a grown man who goes up and gives verbal to a young girl with two dogs under control, without any facts to hand. I bet he would not have dared say the same to a young man with an out of control dog.

The same puffed up, clueless idiots who used to yell abuse in the street at a lone woman (my mother) or a young girl (me) or both of us together because of the type of (under control) dog we were walking down the street with.

Makes 'that' sort of person feel big and important, I guess. Now THAT is sad.....

Not wishing to offend anyone with one, but in my experience little terriers are the worst! I feel it's ok for me to say this as I have a gorgeous border terrier who looks like butter wouldn't melt, until a dog runs up to her and then she goes for them and means it!

People looked shocked by this sweet little dog being aggressive but she just doesn't like dogs she doesn't know! This usually leaves me bloody angry that they think it's alright to let there dog come racing up to yours which is happily trotting along on the lead.

Maybe it's because she's small that she feels threatened, but also probably doesn't help that I have a nervous breakdown every time there's a loose dog within a mile :D

Those were not my dogs. They are just examples of what a pitbull should look like.

Close your eyes now because my dog is a ex fighting pitbull who looks disgusting for a pitbull.

By the way you only seem capable of popping up on pitbull thread and talking you clap.

OP I have had people tell me that my girls are dangerous and should be muzzled. Suki (brown) runs away from any dogs that come near her and Silk (white) just rolls over tongue hanging out and tail going ten to a dozen :D
When they play together they are both VERY vocal and people tell me I should stop them from fighting before one gets killed. Depending on the persons tone they get ever a rude reply or I will explain to them that they are sisters and are only playing and are both very friendly to both dogs and people.
By the way both your dogs are lovely :D

There are some ignorant people out there. When I walk my black pug out and about I've had people ask me if he's an English Bulldog and someone thought he was a staffie! Mind you, I have nothing against staffies and think they're lovely dogs but there are some people out there who really don't know anything about dogs. And for the record regarding the man's comment about the muzzle on your dog - who's to say it's aggressive just because it has a muzzle on? People use them on dogs who scavenge really badly so having preconceptions about a dog who has a muzzle on is just ignorant and pathetic!

This is a horse and hound forum. It still amazes me to find massive breed generalisations in such an environment.

AO - I don't know what you expect a bull fighting dog to look like....please enlighten us. Because IME those dogs looks very fit for purpose.

I think she's referring to the fact that the only time we hear from you on the AAD part of the forum is when you want to share your views on what you perceive to be dangerous dogs.

The 'clap' part I suspect refers to the extremity and one-sidedness of your opinion.

I could be wrong of course, the above is just my interpretation.
