I have, she fell over coming home from a night out, hit her head and is still in a coma 4yrs later..................What do you suggest we all go round in full body suits & helmet or perhaps a giant air bubble all the time????

I personally dont' think some people are really capable of walking outside their front door - some aren't even capable of cooking dinner without setting the blooming house on fire, or crossing the street without looking to see what's coming.......gosh, there goes that "survival of the fittest" again.....

QR. The arrogance of some riders never ceases to amaze me. Would be very happy to introduce you to a friend of mine who is now (and I make no apologies for describing her as such) a vegetable, doubley incontinent, permanently hospitalised, and in her thirties quite likley to remain in that state for possibly another 50 years.

How do you think her husband (now ex....he could only take so much) and her children feel about their mother slipping off her horse at walk on a hack and ending up like that.

And yes she WAS a very accomplished horsewoman.

To those of you who feel they are just immortal, are better riders than the rest of us and have perfect horses.....I am unable to change your minds Im sure....just remember you are unable to change your mind too.

One brain for life.
 
Tia - I know things are a little different out there, but don't you worry that there will be the one occasion where your horse spooks and you aren't ready for it?

I wear a hat when riding, as my father received a fractured skull and it kind of puts you off

However I'm no saint as occasionally leap on bareback with no hat which is massively stupid as I'm quite likely to fall off with just a headcollar for control!!

I always wear a hat although I trust my boy, He does some mighty bucks when I least expect it. How many of you Brits think that hats and hi viz clothing should be made law. (runs for cover) I am a hypocrite because I never wore a hat when turning out the school ponies and I was very young then, Mum didn't know!
 
I fractured my skull a few years back - still ticking along; actually it was the fracturing of my skull which started me back on this tack of not wearing a hat. When you have bones out of place in your skull, a hat is not the best thing to be wearing.

Edited to add; no I don't ever worry about ANY of mine spooking over here. They just wouldn't ever do that.

Hi Mollymillymoo,

If girl in question has the initials HD, you might try speaking to your source again. HD has a hair line fracture, was not kept in hospital and has not smashed her shoulder to bits - she has a possible small chip fracture. Other than that your facts are correct!
 
I think for under 18's it should be made a legal requirement to wear a hat and a back protector if jumping (to protect the children from their stupid parents on the off chance they haven't inherited the stupid genes LOL).
And I think if you are over 18, you should have private medical insurance if you want to ride hatless, so you are not burdening the NHS and the rest of us.

Perhaps.....I prefer to even things up though. Condescending gits looking down their noses at people who make different choices in life to themselves. If these stupid discussions were polite then no-one would have any exciting times like I am having at present

I do wear a hat when riding - have occaisionally jumped on bareback to ride up from the field without a hat when I was a teenager, but not any more. Spring is a mighty tall elephant to fall from!

On a seperate note, I have company healthcare and they have not asked for any medical family history or if I do dangerous sports (both of which apply to me), just wondering if they would/could refuse to pay out on a head injury caused by falling from a horse while not wearing a hat? Does anybody now?
 
I don't know - I've never actually tried. Shall I? Just for you?

Ermm I have so maybe you can keep your concern to yourself. For all I know, you could be an over weight, alcoholic, smoker and thus far more likely to be a drain on the NHS than me.
