My TB has been off for 3 weeks now (orders from the vet) due to a sore back where the back of the saddle wasnt sitting right and causing pressure over this area. She was tender to touch....ie running finger tip pressure over the area would result in a slight dipping motion - nothing major but still uncomfortable.
She is due to start work again next weekend, lunging for first few days, saddler coming a few days after to fit new saddle then bring back into work fully.
She has another week yet but shes still moving away from the pressure, its still sore although slightly better.
Going to call my vet again end of the week if its still the same - so whats the next steps? and how long is it likely to take to heal??
She going bonkers not being ridden as she thrives on work and routine, when shes in work shes lovely to handle. At the moment Shes a handful to lead down to the field and when shes out she bombs up and down throwing shapes  stopping dead at the fence etc..........
Thanks

You should be able to tell by gently poking her :)

Thought i agree- 3 weeks would be impressive!! my horse has a bad back YEARs after the initial damage so I have to manage it even now :) (I doubt yours'll be that bad though!!)

Have you had her back check ? From having a badly fitted saddle it would cause this soreness and it won't go away by it self if only!! I've had the same issue in the pastd with mine and now he gets a sports massage and his back check afterwards too. Just to keep everything nice and supply. Talk to your vet re this. I won't want to bring back into work untill back is sortd. It doesnt stop you from walking in hand or long reining that keeps you fit!!

Hope you get it sorted out soon.

i would get physio if i were you it could be worse than a bit of soreness and even if it isnt that bad after all they always come out working so much better, and yes 3 weeks your horse must be super horse :) do some ground work or fee schooling it will keep her occupied and you could help her get over some fears (if she has any) :D

hope you get everything sorted

My mare had a month and a half off for hers but they think the saddle aggravated an old injury. She has physio - 3 visits from the equine physio before she said get back on her just in walk to begin with

Yes i thought 3 weeks seemed a bit quick...........will get the vet again end of next week and see where we go from here.
Hopefully she will allow me to long rein her - she needs to be doing something!! shes 100% sound other than her back. (had a full lameness assessment)

Have a baby to concentrate on at the moment, although i am a bit frustrated as had a bit planned with her this season bust may aswell write the next few months off :(

I'd agree with physio treatment, I doubt it'll just clear itself up :)

My share boy had back issues from a badly fitting saddle when I took him on. He had physio sessions followed by 6 weeks of longlining 'hacks', lunging in a Pessoa and lunging over poles before being declared fit to have a new saddle fitted and go in to ridden work. He was reassessed after 8 weeks and found to be absolutely fine to continue in normal work. He has an ongoing strict exercise regime to keep his back in tip top condition and regular physio checks. This keeps his back in great condition but he only has to deviate from the plan for a couple of weeks, as happened over winter when we had the snow and ice, and he goes downhill quickly :( We've got him back in great condition now but it does take work to keep him there.

Hope your girl gets comfortable soon :)
