Sore Roxie Dog

I really hope the mri reveals something treatable. I’m sending vibes and thinking the healed best outcome for you both.
You’re doing so well sleep deprived dealing with this then taking on a dentist appointment. Try to rest when you can and care for yourself too. Roxie’s in good hands and answers will come. Everything crossed for you and Roxie 🫂

yes fingers crossed to no surgery!

I’ll know more tomorrow when they call about what the plan is, but I’m hoping it’s just continue on the new medication and crate rest.
I presume it’s a slipped disc type thing? Did she have an MRI?
Is it common that they can heal without surgical intervention? I don’t know much about long backed breed troubles.

Yes it’s a slipped disc. She didn’t have the MRI as they generally only do them if they are going to do the surgery so they know what they’re going to find.

With dogs who are still walking with IVDD they apparently have a good chance of healing with strict crate rest as the body can clear away the disc debris, but it takes time.

As she’s comfortable now they’re not keen to do surgery as messing around near the spinal cord can make her worse. Obviously the risk/benefit is different for dogs who aren’t able to walk.

Now she’s settled on the new painkillers I’m happier about resting her. I was struggling with seeing her in so much pain.

They will have taken her off the IV pain medication overnight so they’ll confirm she’s still happy on oral meds before can can go and collect her.
