Sore Roxie Dog

Are you taking her out in a crate and not picking her up? I really think that helped my dog, so his back wasn’t bent. He slept upstairs and also carried him up and down in a crate. Remember when they toilet this can cause pain as they hunch their back. I used to cringe and get really anxious watching him go. He was on painkillers and only out to wee and poo, and on gabapentin, about 6 weeks I think. He didn’t have any X-rays. Monitored by my vet, I also sent videos to her regularly as he hates going to the vets. My OH made a ramp for when he was a bit better, after about a month I think. The ramp helped him get over the patio door threshold into garden. Ramp made of wood and he glued carpet on top so it had good grip. There is hope, hang on in there. My dog made a great recovery. Not helped that on his first proper short walk, got back to the house and a neighbour’s had escaped and ran up and bit him. I kicked it, bit him again, I kicked it harder, the dog flew about 2 feet away and landed on it’s back, it then ran off. I was so upset & he laid on his bed shaking. The vet was thrilled with his recovery. This was a few years ago now. He’s 13 and still doing well for his age. Thinking of you and your beautiful dog.
The crate is too big to pick up so she’s been stepping out of her crate and I lift her with my hands ynder her armpits and in front of her hind legs to keep her back as straight as possible.

I’m so pleased your dog has made a full recovery. The experience after the first walk must have been terrifying!

I realised that the crate I used is a fabric and mesh crate I use in the car. It has an edge at the bottom of only about 1 inch so he didn’t have to step very high. He was awful to pick up. He’s never liked being picked up and trying to also pick him up when he was in pain was so stressful for both of us. Keeping everything crossed for your gorgeous dog and your family. The situation was so stressful and upsetting x
