Sorry, anal glands again

A friend reccomended a raw meaty bone diet, chicken wings etc but sadly lost her lovely lab at a very young age to stomach cancer, also all vets I have ever asked are really anti any raw bones due to the dangers of splintering. sorry but it's sort of put me off these types of diet.

Thats because vets have no clue about diets for dogs. Look at the crap they sell in their offices.
I highly doubt your friends dogs cancer was down to a raw diet.

Bleurgh! I've never had this problem, but just to add, raw bones don't splinter and cause damage as much as cooked ones do.

LOOK AT YOUR DOG'S TEETH - what do you think they were designed to eat?! :p

Would anybody like to state, on this thread, or another one, if their dog, or a dog they know of personally, has died due to eating a RAW bone? Not a friend of a friend of a friend....

(Sorry for hijack OP :p)

A growing number of vets are becoming very pro, largely those also embracing alternative approaches such as homeopathy. The widespread modern return to raw feeding is largely down to an Australian vet Ian Billinghurst who noted an increase in ill health correcsponding with the increase in the feeding of kibble and convenience dog food in Australia, he is convinced that many modern cancers seen in dogs are attributable to that change of diet.

I have seen old dogs drastically inprove on raw diet and am firmly in Dr Billinghursts camp on a link between convenience foods and a wide range of ill helath in dogs.

There are thousands of dogs on a proper raw diet that have never had a problem with raw bones and I have been feeding them virtually daily for 10 years without a problem. I have often heard people saying that a dog died because of raw bones but this has either been totally unsubstatiated, or as a result of an error in their preparation (microwaving) or feeding kibble with the bones in which case that is not the food but the owners fault.
