A friend of mine is selling her horse and I think she may be overpricing it, especially in the current market, just wondered what you guys think.

16.3hh 5 year old Dutch Warmblood gelding. Very nice to do in stable, load, shoe etc, (will only be clipped with sedation tho), very nice temp.
Has done mostly BSJA, now in Newcomers but has only won about £150. All DCs for BN and Disco and has been placed in a few discos and one newcomers think he had a 6th. This was with our instructor riding him though, when a less experienced rider gets on him he can be very very strong! Started BSJA in Jan 07 when he wasnt even 4!
Also won a 4 year olds class last year, just the once (I say that because she thinks this makes him worth a lot more...? I dunno, you tell me!!)
Has done one BD comp and won the prelim but this was with a pro dressage rider, who is her other instructor!
Basically hasnt won much without a pro on his back.
Jumps XC jumps quite happily, hacks on on the road alone and in company no probs there. Very strong and forward going when jumping.
What do you think?

He has done rather a lot for a youngster and I would be a little worried about his growth plates as Warmbloods take quite a bit longer to mature. He will probably reach around 17.1hh full up and that is an aquired market however, he sounds as though he has talent and I understand its only with a pro rider at present which is a good thing as you then know his training should be correct. On price I would say around £6k - £7k at the moment but I think the amount he has done would put a few people off.

up to £10k imo , good record for a 5yo , no bother that instructor has competed him , i would expect a horse like that to be bought by a capeable rider

Have to agree with you there. I wouldn't touch him with a bargepole. Doing serious jumping under the age of 4? I would hardly have even sat on him at that age and would be worried about long-term damage particularly with the amount of growing and development still to come.

Couldnt agree more.... I found out my horse had done BSJA at 6 with his first owner and thought this was about right.... but 3 and a half?? Way too young. still it was never my place to say it to her as she wouldnt have listened to me anyway!
