Sorry, another silly foal question ....

My foal lived with 4 year olds and a 20 year old
He is well rounded and good mannered
I would suggest a third horse just to give the 6 yo a break
Keeping a foal entertained alone can be tiring

We have had foals weaned at 6m and at at youngstock livery and foals kept at home in a family group (2 mares and their 2 and 3yos plus new foal). The latter was much less stressful. The foal was weaned at maybe 10 months, by which time he was spending most of his time with his 'siblings'. We moved the mares and the young ones didn't care..

Wow !
So I bought my mare in good faith, I only discovered she was pregnant after I had her for several months. I have done my blooming best to salvage a pretty horrible situation for my mare , her foal and myself.
I could have sent her back to the dodgy dealer that I bought her from who wanted to wean the foal at 4 months, sell it and get the mare back into work. But I decided that this situation was not my mare's fault so I stuck with her.
So, HaffiesRock, perhaps think before posting unkind comments!
I bought a youngster to keep my homebred foal company after weaning. She didn't play with the other foal and only wanted to hang out with her half brother and mother. I sent my foal's mother away for weaning for 4 months. I tried to keep them apart when the mare came back, but my mare wasn't having it.They were then turned out together and are v happy in a little herd. I sent other youngster back to her breeder. My mare is not particular clingy. I can take my youngster off to shows or train her in my field out of sight without a drama. Good luck! Hope it goes well.
