I'd known him about 4/5 years before I bought him, he'd taught me everything I knew at that point and when the riding school shut down I couldn't face saying goodbye to him!
Glad I did, however much he annoys me sometimes, I learn more from him every day!
The lady who was looking after my horse needed some help and she lived over the road from me and he was kept at the riding school I was going to so dad asked if I could help as my lessons weren't getting me any where. I took him on full loan when her marriage broke down and then mum and dad bought him for my 16th after I'd loaned him for 2yrs. He wasn't the type of horse I was after but I love him for him so wanted him
I didn't like Cat at all at first sight cos he was too big & looked ungainly, but as soon as I saw him under saddle I fell for him head over heels. He had floaty, loose paces & a huge, huge effortless jump (by Cruising) which sealed the deal.
He was my dream horse, & when I lost him, I bought Adrian because he had v similar breeding, looked the same & rode the same. I was hoping that we'd have the same click, & I was extraordinarily lucky cos the gamble is so far paying off.
Reminded me of other horses that I have ridden so I felt really at home with her. Kind of like when you're on a date and you know its the right person for you because you can relax and be yourself, you feel like you've known that person for years
Some people I know were desperate to find a home for their horse - stupidly I said "I'll have her" having seen her once five years ago - so she turned up. I had her on loan for 6 months then bought her for £5! I love her to death!
First loan pony - she was the only one on offer! She wasn't even broken and I was young and had no clue. Bit of a disaster waiting to happen really, luckily nothing did!
First own pony - she was totally bombproof when we took her out hacking. That was all I wanted or needed at the time.
Second own horse - I just knew she was The One. It took me 30 seconds to decide, and I remember telling her when leading her in from the field when I first saw her "You're coming home with me. I think I'd better ride you first though or my instructor might think I'm mad buying a horse I just 'knew' was right!" She really was perfect though, just what I needed. I love her far too much!
All my share horses have just sort of been offered, and I've said yes. All four have been ones whose owners haven't had time to ride very often, they knew I was wanting to ride more, so they offered me their horses. Luckily it's always worked out ok - Cracks was great although slightly scary jumping, but nothing bad ever happened; Cookie was fantastic and did my jumping the world of good; Berlin is good for my confidence (to be able to ride him you have to have some, which is making me more confident); Kit is just so fab and is my little project.
I've been lucky really with all my horses as they've always worked out ok. Although I did look at nine other horses before I bought my second, and lots of people thought I was being fussy!
I had mine on loan. We jogged everywhere for the first 3 weeks - I thought 'I can't keep this horse'. Funnily enough I've still got her 17 years later....... I love her feisty, fizzy nature.
I went to a dealer's yard. She was the only one with her head over the door and I remember when we drove in, thinking 'I really want to try that one.'
I had told the dealer what I wanted over the phone and Gem was the first one that was brought out
I tried 4 others after her but none of them matched up to her and I knew that she was the one I wanted.
Went to dealers to try her, and was 'talking' to neds whilst waiting for dealer to come out of house. The one I eventually bought was the one who was snuffling me and licking me... was the one I'd gone to try without knowing she was the same one!!!
I bought my old TB mare as an unhandled 4yo having seen her in the field, only because I thought she had a kind face.
15yrs later...she's never bitten, kicked, barged...so I think I may have been right.
My now 3yo I helped to foster (it's a lengthy process) onto a mare...and bought her because I liked the look of her.
I've bought others...but just because I liked them.

Lady - I felt sorry for (she was a rescue), she was really thin and just had the sweetest face.
Fudge - I felt safe on and we really clicked straight away, plus he looked like I imagined my dream horse would.
Temperament for Odie
Temperament for Gus - for OH
Fell in love with Mr T even tho I didn't really want him, but he was such a star that he never went back
Because she was the first horse that gave me the "smile factor" when I tried her! I have had her for eight years and I have loved every minute of it. I adore her, will never part with her and hope her foal, due May, will be as lovely as she is, but perhaps not quite so feisty!
Because everything I'd been to see before my mare was obvious crap and when I saw her I thought "that's more like it". They had some ace pictures of her jumping with a professional and she had a lovely temperament. They told us she wasn't easy and had issues (didn't mention being inclined to p*ss off every so often for no apparent reason!) but she was nice to ride and was clearly kind and intelligent. I think she's a better horse than the likes of me tend to come across and while she's not the safest, she's my best chance to get somewhere competition wise once I really get to grips with her.
When I walked up to Murphy's stable he leant over the wall and snuffled my entire face with his moustache! I fell for him then! When I watched him being ridden, and when I rode him I thought if I didn't feel safe with him I wouldn't feel safe with any horse ever (I had lost my confidence really badly at the time).
It all could have gone horribly wrong TBH, because I broke all the rules about horse shopping, I didn't take an experienced friend, I only saw him once, and he was a 250 mile round trip away from where I live! But it's all worked out well....he's my little superstar
Liz went " scratch my bum! " i went " oh she is so lovely " and brought her
Ted i had on loan for my son to ride, son lost interest and i ended up buying him as i fell in love with his cheeky knee biting ways, and Bel was so cute being just 3 months old, wasn't looking for a youngster but after seeing her i couldn't get her out of my head so brought her!
I ended up with Dolly as I had bought one horse of a dealer, which turned out to be nothing like described and the only way out of the situation was to swap that one for Dolly. Which also turned into a complete disaster.
