Speechless - group 7 countries and horse leg amputations.

Sadly this and more go on there. There have been videos of leg amputations, then they wave the amputated leg in front of the horse and laugh. Disgusting, they then put the poor horse out into the desert because it is in gods hands. Something has got to be done. Oh and they run racing in this country, they run Channel 4 Racing.

That is so sad :( i have had huge arguments with some animal wing nuts about pts vs leg amputation with horses. You just can't argue with stupid some times.

I can't bear to look as I relive the sight day after day in my head. Having seen the photos on the Egypt site I can only guess at the horror these animals are subject to. However, I have thought of one solution. I'd be more than happy to donate to a fund for the quick and humane destruction of any animal put in this appalling situation. What we need is a small mercenary group who are professionally skilled in humane animal euthanasia. Sort of like a contract killing for animals in dire need. Everyday these desperate creature are kept alive is a day too long.

Before anyone jumps on me, I agree with all the posts above, and I wondered why it happened.

Apparently it is cultural and that to euthanase an animal is wrong. So, it would be in the same line of the argument of whether or not people in the UK have a 'right to die' and if they should be euthanased if they too are suffering irreversibly - some people are strongly for this and some people strongly against.

I.e. I don't think you can change a cultural belief by jumping on peoples opinions in horror and saying that a whole culture must change their ways and suddenly start euthanasing animals that are badly injured. I am not sure how one would go about it, but I do think the 'your countries beliefs are wrong and our countries beliefs are right' attitude is just going to offend people and make them stick to their guns.

Perhaps there are some equine charities out there already working behind the scenes to help?

^^ wkiwi you're absolutely correct IMO.

I think in a small scale Prince Fluffy Kareem have been working to educate the owners that come to them for help, and they seem to have some success in explaining that PTS is the better outcome when the owners want to amputate a damaged limb.

ETA they work with local staff which is probably why they are successful in this manner - it's not some random westerners trying to impose their view. I think organisations like PFK need supporting as much as possible.

I hadn't heard of them - had to google, so thanks for posting it. Normally I support the Brooke if I can, because they work on similar lines in many countries, but this one looks like they do excellent work too. I do think having 'Fluffy' in the name could be a bit off-putting though as I thought you were using a nickname to start with!

Quite frankly having seen the article, I don't much care for any fluffy bunny approach; let's lop some bits of the people that do these awful things. It's barbaric and there is too much animal cruelty in the world due to 'culture'. We are in the 21st century and supposedly educated - sometimes it's like we are back in the dark ages.

It's appalling .
But they just don't have our attitude to Ending horses lives in many countries .
I lived in an mainly Islamic country and saw horses left to die naturally as a result of illness for instance laminitis .
But they will shoot dogs and cats for fun never fully 'got ' the logic of how it all worked .
Those pictures are hideous .

But: are you prepared to go to war with another country that has a different culture? Who is going to fight (don't pick me, i don't want to hurt anyone) and how much suffering will it cause (syria being a prime example)?

And, what about beliefs that don't coincide with ours? e.g. those that think it is cruel to ride horses and shut them in stables for most of their lives. Do those people have the right to attack us?

Also, what about the immense amount of cruelty that happens in the UK to animals and children (and adults).
Of course we are meant to be educated and in the 21st century - but we can't even stop bullying, let alone things like rape and murder.

I think supporting the charities and organisations that promote animal welfare is the way to go.
But that is just my personal opinion and of course lots of people have different ones otherwise we would all be clones!

I agree that education is the way forwards, but it is going to be a long, slow old road. Sadly it does nothing for the poor animals that are currently suffering.

GS, that makes no sense to me either.
