Well said!
It is up to all those people who are stupid enough to read your posts to translate them into intelligible English, so that you don't have to trouble your pretty little head with spelling/grammar.
Go you!

I agree!!!!!!!!!!
It is so much worse ?!! when People Use random CAPITALS!!!!! and lots of question marks and excalamation marks!!!!!!!!!
It is!!!!!!!!!! a sign that they are;
1. Too stupid to know how to use punctuation marks
2. So stupid that they think overuse adds emphasis, eloquence or interest to their posts.
3. Under 12 years old.
4. Too illiterate to be able to make their points with any clarity, and are thus relying on the forum equivalent of SHOUTING!!!!!!!!!!

ooh........wonder which one of those I am (definitely not number 3), I use loads of exclamation marks (and brackets and full stops) in my posts, especially when I am wound up about something.

Much is to do with sloppy speech, though I have yet to come across 'vis' and 'vat' (instead of this and that) amongst the many written horrors I am exposed to in primary school. Much is the fault of our truly inconsistent language and as a phonics teacher I spend an embarrassingly large amount of time apologising for the idiosyncratic anomalies therein. These we explain away as 'Tricky Words', and I have to make do with this 'apology' for an excuse for the confusion that frustrates not only the strugglers!

I could go on for hours, but obvious spelling errors I can cope with, and hayledge is one which I can fully appreciate as not entirely being the speller's fault. Brought, instead of bought and should of (with, ironically, should spelt correctly!) instead of should have is simply laziness and ignorance.

Dyslexia is quite separate and totally distinguishable from sloppiness. I could accept 'I bort' but not 'I brort' and 'I shud hav' but not 'I shud of/ov' from a dyslexic. NOTE This is an extreme example and all the people on here with the Dyslexia disclaimer in their signatures on here appear to be remarkably competent spellers! Perhaps it is because they make an effort?

Zzzz yawn...Thought this was a horse forum...? I must be mistaken though.

I can't spell very well but to be honest, do I care....?

I'm not madly keen on misuse of words, but spelling incorrectly doesn't bother me as long as I can read it without too much difficulty. I find misuse of words far more annoying and difficult to translate. Also, sometimes the word use is 'incorrect' technically but a common British use of slang (and I'm American) but it still irks me, even though I understand what I am reading.
Of course, in America, we have our own poor use of wording or spelling but I grew up with it so I naturally understand the message and don't always click that its not proper grammar/spelling.

I agree that forum/net use should be relaxed and there's no point being anal about things, however I also think there needs to be fairly passable use of language or others won't be able (or bothered) to read your posts, anyway, and then you are just wasting webspace.

I see where you're coming from here, I try very hard with spellings to make sure they look right before I post and if I'm not sure about a word I try to avoid using it or I type it into Word.

See, I do have to agree with the OP here and it is something that irritates me although i try not to let it bother me (I get more annoyed when you see bad spelling on restaurant menus and stuff like that). However, certain common bad spelling errors bug me more than others ie speling definitely as definately and using the wrong there/their/they're, as someone else mentioned.

Still, I understand everyone gets it wrong everyso often. Typos do not bother me (I do enough of them - although I will try blame this stupiod netbook as it does odd things! Lol). I do think people should maybe read through stuff before they post though as sometimes the poor spelling and grammar does make if difficult to understand what some posts are about or what they're trying to get across.
