Spikey stirrups

Currently have Acavello Arena stirrups but find the metal cheese grater treads slippery. Are stirrups with spikey treads like the new Le Mieux ones and FlexOns safe? Surely too much grip is dangerous? Any thoughts?

Interesting about the cheese graters being slippy, my stirrups have cheese graters and they aren’t slippy (but my foot isn’t stuck in place either so I feel safe). What are the tread on your boots like, maybe they are the issue? I’ve heard really good reviews about Acavallo.
No experience with the spikes but I do wonder whether in an oops moment if your foot will come out properly

A couple of people have mentioned the sole of my boots. Very valid point. They are MH Sovereign and whilst they aren't top of the range, they weren't cheap, so I hope there isn't a design flaw in the materials used in the sole. I love my boots.

I have flexi Royal Riders with wide cheese grater treads that I use for everything apart from competing, absolutely no issues in my Grasmeres or Bromonts.
Def investigate boot tread x

To add, get someone to observe you riding, do you have the ball of your foot on the tread? Are you perhaps toe hanging, or perhaps just resting the ball on the edge of the stirrup? Worth checking out.

I think you're right. But a gazillion people have MH Sovereign boots and I've never heard of any probs with slippery sole. Trust me to be different ?

I must be doing something. But it's strange that I've not always had this problem. I'm competing aff ele and been at this riding lark for 40 years now, so whilst I'm def not a talented rider, I just would have thought by now I wouldnt be struggling with keeping my feet in my stirrups ?. Two things have changed in recent months, stirrups and boots. Maybe my boot/stirrup combo has highlighted an existing problem. Tho they were both upgrades, supposedly better that my previous equipment. So I'm tempted to try spikey stirrups with a wider tread on an incline to see if it helps, but concerned about the safety of super duper grippy treads.

i notice problems with my stirrups if I get too tight somewhere in my body. just a thought. i often ride in leather soled boots and slippy stirrups and it's fine if I stay loose enough, if something gets grippy then my legs don't stay where I put them. just throwing it out there.

I have acavallo operas and I don’t find them slippy. Also, my foot has been known to come out fine in an emergency

Really valid points raised here, all appreciated and will be investigated. I'm also going to arrange a position troubleshooting session with my trainer.

Just wondering if anyone could advise of the safety of spikey stirrups. Ages ago I read about possible dangers with extra extra grippy stirrups, but more and more spikey ones are coming to the market and they are growing in popularity. FlexOns seem to be the latest trend. Anyone got any thoughts on this?
