Spin off from the abler thread

yes, I just think it worth pointing out if people are possibly going to use other supplements/treatment because they might not realise.

He’s on feedmark gastric comfort twice a day, that contains apple pectin which coats the stomach already.
I’m feeling more hopeful this time actually.
Not only is he looking great and tolerating exercise (albeit fairly gentle) he’s stopped box walking which he’s done for years!

Op - I was in a similar situ in that I couldn't afford to continue a course of Omeprazole/Gastroguard. (Insurance refused to pay)

I found studies in the US that tested Ranitidine and found it to be effective in treating ulcers and that it is quite commonly used in the US. I also found it on Ebay in quite large amounts and, with my vets backing, did 6 months on it. It's believed to be better for the hind gut than GG and certainly my boy responded well (ulcers and IBD). I haven't had him rescoped but have no reason to believe there is still an issue. If I thought he had a reoccurance I would pop him back on it.

It worked out very reasonable too - IIRC I was about £40 a month. You can buy it in the chemists/supermarket and do a few days on it to see how you go before commiting to buying in larger amounts. The OTC stuff is 75mg so I think I had to feed something like 22 a day but online I sourced 150mg tablets and added them to his feed. I think I saw someone selling 300mg tablets that they had brought into the UK at the time too.
He is maintained now on Equishure and a gut balancer and is doing well.

Scarlett, thank you. I’ll look/chat to my vet.
I think my insurance has a little way to go but it’s after that I’m worried about. £40 a month is perfectly handlable!
