Does anyone else's horse reacted badly to being clipped?

My novice had a bib clip in the autumn with no change in personality. Come Xmas she needed reclipped so she was given a hunter clip and she has turned into a very spooky idiot. Have I got the only horse who has reacted so badly. This is a first for me so am a tad surprised. Will remember next winter to stick to a bib clip, and put up with a sweaty horse.

first week my mare was a bit on her toes, but it was also a week with a bitter cold wind, so she really felt it. no problems since.

Do you use an exercise sheet on her? If not it might be that she is cold so and is therefore more spooky/reactive.

Oh yes. The first time I did a hunter clip on this guy, I asked for trot and got bronc. And gallop. And bronc. And gallop. And ... well, you get the picture! Am proud to say I sat them all, but I did swear quite a lot ;)

As you can see, a 'hot blooded type' ...

Yep, have experienced that in the past! TBF though, a bib clip to a hunter clip is quite a big jump! Not that many horses really need a hunter clip unless working really hard or particularly sweaty beasts (my native-y big pony/ little horse type is a horribly sweaty beast, he'd be one of those blokes who is always a bit sweaty even sitting in the pub and has to carry a hanky everywhere to wipe his forehead, and probably wears a Bruce Willis style vest most of the time too... :/ So he has a hunter clip all the time as even a 30 min schooling session results in steam and a seriously soaked pony). Next year what about trying something like a trace, or chaser maybe? That would be somewhere in between and hopefully you'd avoid the silliness that inevitably comes with a hunter or full clip!

Makes literally no difference to Pip, but I always warm up, cool down and hack out in an exercise sheet! And if it's freezing he wears two... :o Maybe that would help with your girl's behaviour? I know both of our lads get jumpy when they're cold!
