I don't like them so that's how I voted, but at the end of the day I'd have bought one if it had been "the one" personality wise. I'd probably have winced slightly everytime I looked at it though
I love spotties (see avatar) I haven't met a horrible one yet, but obviously they exist. The only thing I'd like to change is, most (not all) of the spotties I've met have really thin manes and tails, I'd prefer them to have thicker manes and tails.
I wouldn't buy a horse purely because it was spotty, we have to click too.
Well we are on our 2nd Appaloosa BUT we went to look at another when I was looking for my last horse. She was beautiful but other than that was definitely NOT what I was looking for to complete my rehab from a broken ankle so we didn't buy her. I got an IDx instead.
We have found that you have to be firm and consistent with them because they do seem to all have very strong personalities.
ETA we saw another one advertised olcally about a month ago and debated long & hard whether we had enough grass/money to risk going to look at her. In the end we decided to play safe and not go. She's our 1st port of call tho if we win the Lottery tonight
Our spotty is fab. Big, Solid lad with tons of mane and hair but he does have Irish mix in there. He always sticks up for the underdog in the field and is a quiet, passive boy who is top of the pecking order, rules the roost with a glance and no bullying, is amazingly gentle with kids and tolerates anything smaller than himself with respect. He is clever and dare I say it has a sense of humour, almost four years on from buying him, we would not be without him.
I like them, I have one! She has a pink nose and around her eyes so she's not to everyone's taste and I probably wouldn't have picked her, but got attached to her as I loaned her first.
Was 3 times National Appaloosa Champion before we bought him. At the time I was not very into 'spots' and told sellers that I wouldn't be paying a premium for them, as I was not into showing!!
Was looking for a good potential Junior eventer - and wow - did we get it!!
With my 13 yr old (then) he went through PN and Novice to double clear inside time at JRN champs, in one year!!!!
He has continued to be the most amazing , talented horse I have ever owned. Sadly, due to an injury, he never reached his true potential, but there were many pro's who reckoned he would have made it to the very top in eventing.
He is still with us now - age 18 - and very cross that he only gets to do the low level stuff!
He is Seriously - the BEST horse I have ever had!!!!!!!!!
I think that she is beautiful, she certainly stands out in a crowd. She can be a monkey, stubborn and a cowbag.....not sure if thats the mare in her or the Appy!! Her mane and tail can be scrawny but they are thicking up a little at mo, her feet are not great either. BUT I love her to bits and she loves me too
I love them. I have a leopard spot appaloosa, 5 years old, he's been broken since April this year. I've had him since he was 5 months old. They are very strong willed and can be stubborn but they are also very clever, very funny, and versatile. I don't know about others, but mine lives on fresh air all year, rarely needs his feet touching, can be ridden shoeless (although we don't do that much and it's all on grass or a menage) and not only that, he turns heads no matter where we go. I got him as I like spotties and I set out to find one - I knew he was the one even just from photos, seeing him in the flesh was just a formality.
Love em, although I admit due to the pink skin and motling around the eyes some can appear to some people as ugly but each to their own...I sent my ID mare to a spotty stallion last year unfortunately she lost the foal but we bought one of his fillies (she is black, absolutely spotless) but has the same temperament and is absolutely adorable, everybody loves her, we are hoping she may spot out as I did tell her I wanted a blanket spot! she seems to have bucked the trend for th wispy mane as well as hers is so thick you cant get a comb through it so it has been shortened and thinned and still I cant get less than 13 plaits along her neck grrrr You cant beat a good spotty...unless you know different?
