Hello

Just posting on behalf of a friend..as their springer is 7 years young they wanted to have a companion for it before it is too old to add a second dog also to lessen the inevitable when the time comes. They do not want a pup as there are enough homes available for pups, but were hoping to find a bitch say 16months to 4 years? They live on a 2000 acre farm estate and have a little girl so as long as it is good with/used to children, they are pretty much open to all sorts of rehoming reasons. They have been looking at preloved and for ads free to a good home (which it is) but would be happy to pay a sensible price for the right dog. Papers are not essential and its fine also if the current home is not coping because the dog is too much to cope with as they are more than used to the breed. It will be a home for life and they are lovely people so it will be a happy ending for one dog.... I'm just posting on the off chance anyone on here knows of something that needs a good forever home. He does work his springer but a working bitch is not essential...does not even matter if it is well trained, they are very easy going when it comes to most problem solving so just putting some feelers out....thank you

Would they consider a spaniel cross (collie) as there is one on the NWESSR also several others on there that need a good home. http://englishspringerrescue.org.uk/dogs-needing-homes/homes-required.html

Hello Pauline, thank you for posting...tho I know they will ONLY consider a springer spaniel bitch...have had hundreds of replies from ads elsewhere on their behalf..... for staffies, whippets, and literally ALL the unspaniel sorts you could possibly imagine, including a few breeders offering unwanted gerriatrics!and all the dogs were male! hmmm now I know why they asked me to go on line and help them look!....:D:D:D

thank you all...quick update...most rescues have said no due to 3/4 year old child..they agreed face to face it is simply to cover their own backs as they cannot guarantee the dogs with children etc, fair enough...and definitely has to be a female as the existing springer gets on famously without question with all females (even if the other bitch is grumpy!) but with males not such a sure bet -to be honest, much the opposite is usually the reaction...and they want to keep their dog from too much stress & don't want to be in the situation of needing to rehome the new one..equally good thinking.

The second reason they were not keen to rescue is that once dogs are in most rescues, they are considered safe...we stumbled across a few horror stories of dogs people tried to rehome or give away themselves and having such uncertain futures, some ending up been lied to and the dogs taken for bait (heartbreaking story I can't even retype it was so awful :( ) anyway so that along with the no-child policies made them want to buy/find a dog (bitch) that may otherwise face an uncertain future...I've been trawling the rescues tho just incase any pop up & have a more relaxed policy on kids-they have even offered to sign a disclaimer but rescues just not having it...some rescues were far too precious saving dogs to give good homes a look in-I can assure you this home would be any dogs dream...they were still advertising the dogs months later-I can understand it from both sides totally but it happened to me too so I do understand...I'm home/with horses all day & work from home so when I was looking, you would be soo surprised how many rescues still said this would not be good enough but happily rehomed to people who I knwo leave the dog out side in all weather for 8 hours while they work...but thats a whole other rant!! very gratefull tho for any snippets (not whippets!) that may help us find..even has own rabbits ready & waiting at their home!;-)xxx

Simple answer they have nothing against rescues as explained above..just they are not prepared to rehome their child in order to satisfy the rescues no kids policy!:-)They have been rejected because of their daughter by EVERY rescue.

I think the OP has explained quite reasonably why her friends are not considering rescues. Their child is 4 years old and that last link you gave states no children under 8 years. Most rescues are reluctant to home with children I know, I think they have to be very careful if they don't know a dogs full history so err on the side of caution.

Thank you MM....:-)

pauline, sorry if you are offended but I did try to explain in my op. I am graeful for your help tho as with everyones..its simply because of the red tape on the rescues side regarding children, thats all. They are happy to take a dog in tho that is awaiting a place at rescue and perhaps being rehomed direct from its original owners home...some rescues were so rude it took one hec of alot of explaining & hard work to convince them to stick with finding a pre-rescue & not just giving in and buying a pup which they have kind of decided would be not as ideal, but people can only take a certain amount of knocks before they turn a blind eye....I've still got these on side to help a needy dog, so at the end of the day thats what counts..:-)
