Sprinter Sacre Gofundme

I've not read all comments so may be saying the already known but I believe his owner in racing who would have had the prize money died some time ago. Someone I know led SS up after the funeral.

I'm starting to think that if you own a horse it should be mandatory to have insurance, like cars. I dread to think the amount of horses (and animals in general) who suffer because people can't, won't or don't pay for the vet.
Insurance doesn’t pay enough anyway. I’ve just spent double over what the max insurance pay out was trying to save my horse. I’d love to do a GoFundMe

Reading the RP article it says that SS will 'return to his stable' after the procedure. Sounds like he's going back to the person who started the gofundme. I'd question if that is the right place after this launching of a begging bowl when NH says he'd already arranged to pay for the treatment/op personally.

Exactly is he with the most appropriate owner?

Publicly stating that the family of the original owner nor Nicky Henderson would help financially when they had not been informed is IMHO utterly disgusting. It is also libellous and a very stupid thing to do. Not at all surprised that Ms Roberts has been strongly criticised on social media.

I am curious as to why there was such a panic to surgically intervene, Splint bones usually sort themselves out with time!!

Think there's an interesting discussion to be had about the role someone has who takes on a high profile horse, and whether that high profile horse remains in the public eye because social media allows it, and that public profile allowing for the ol' tug of the heart strings when the proverbial, in whatever form, happens.

There are plenty of successful high profile ex racers who you wouldn't know what they're up to, just merrily being enjoyed elsewhere.

It could well just be a simple misunderstanding.

I've had understandings with owners of horses I've had for rehab or retirement where they have said that at the horse's age / soundness level etc they would be happy to pay up to a certain amount for any vet investigations / treatment and no more. But they generally have serious thing like colic surgeries, long term box rest or injuries with guarded prognoses in mind. If there was something acute and fixable and it was a higher amount, they may well have decided differently in the moment. It's possible that the current keeper (it sounds like she doesn't own him) just panicked about the amount and thought it might be a no from the owner so tried to go it alone.

Fractured split bones generally dont. The fractured portion l9ses its blood supply, becomes necrotic and sets up an infection (sequestrum). Generally removing the fractured portion is thr only option. It's minor surgery, and often done standing.

Thank you for the clarification. Every day is a school day in up to date times.
I commented after a personal experience albeit many years ago when a horse was treated conservatively for a # splint bone.

I think Caroline is still alive and kicking, it was her husband that sadly passed.
