SS Flexibilty plus or Best Flex HA?

I’ve used the Science Supplements joint supplement for a while now, but was disappointed to find after a recent MRI scan for a soft tissue injury, that my horse has got some arthritic changes in his pastern. The vet says it’s nothing of concern at the moment, but having used this very expensive product for the last 3 years as a preventative measure, the horse is just 10 and low mileage, I’m wondering if he needs something ‘better’? On paper, the Best Flex HA appears better than the SS one, but the latter is the only one that’s backed up by scientific studies. Has anyone made the switch between these 2 and felt it was the right decision? Tia?

Best flex has 7g more Glucosamine per day for a 500kg animal then the S supplement, 10.5g more MSM, 6g more Vitamin C, 2g more Chondroitin, 13g less Omega 3, and 950mg more Hyaluronic Acid.. so on that basis I would say Best Flex is probably the way to go.

Best Flex is £2.53 per day whereas SS is £1.93. On that basis I would be buying Boswellia at £13.50 per KG (50 days at 20g), 1kg of MSM at £23.95 (for 84 days at 12g per day) and see what results I can get for £0.56 per day. I wouldn't bother with Glucosamine as I have never met, in real life, anyone that has seen much noticeable different from feeding it.

can you save your pennies and go for something like cartrophen instead? it has really put a spring in the step of my 16yo (who has nothing iffy diagnosed, it's more for my peace of mind having given up feeding expensive joint supps).

Thanks for the workings out? they’re both expensive aren’t they? The BF has a third off with a discount code at the moment, but if it works better, I’m willing to pay. Might try the cartrophen first as suggested and see if that helps ?

I started on SS and seemed to have good results, was advised to try premier flex plus as I needed to save money if I could, and the horse got worse again.
I’ve restarted on SS, now 2 weeks in and horse seems to be getting better again (or it could be because the ground has softened up, who knows! )
I’m a sceptic by nature, and there’s always so many factors that can affect arthritic horses, but there did seem to be a real improvement the first time so I’ll stay with it for now.

I have used Extra Flex (one down from Best Flex) and that made a real difference. I confess that I really rate the Feedmark joint supplements, they seem to make a difference. I have used Extra Flex on several horses with good results, so I would imagine that Best Flex would work.

Haven't used SS but I did move my horse from Feedmark Extra Flex to Best Flex last year and there was a noticeable improvement to her way of going.
I am another who really rates Feedmark. The supplements can be expensive but given the amount of special offers they do you should never really be spending full price on it.

Vet hasn’t suggested anything as it’s not causing an issue at the moment. I’ve been using supplements as a preventative. Don’t know about arthrimid, is that a supplement too?

I basically feed msm and boswellia to my arthritic horse it seemed to have better results than a few of the arthritic supplements I tried.

No its a sort of gel that the vet injects into the joint to help stop anymore bone changes etc. Lasts for about 5ish years. It can't be done when there is fusion.
