Hi yes that is right. Then there is an evening championship for some other classes, so yes if you did the first set of classes - think they are foreign breeds - and were 1st/2nd then you go to the mini championship, then the championship for the LIHS ticket is after the ridden for that section so you wouldn't have to stay all day. Had a look at the schedule over lunchtime.

That’s great, I didn’t want to be getting back too late and I haven’t booked a stable so he will be coming everywhere with me 🙈 from what I can gather the restricted classes are later on in the day although it really is hard to tell as there are no approximate times - could do with a ‘not before’ time so I know where to aim to get there really!

I would suggest coming off the M1 at jct 18 and turn right towards Rugby on the A428. Stay with it till you get signs for Dunchurch, B4429. Into Dunchurch, turn left on A45 towards Daventry. Dual carriageway as you come out of Dunchurch then under M45 bridge. Drive is on the left just after a right turn to Grandborough. It is a long drive but at least they have improved it now and in parts it is two vehicle width. When is the show?

I wish I had checked this earlier today, I drove the route today to get my bearings and ended up going over the m45 and then down a narrow lane and over a narrow bridge! I was worried about doing that in the lorry but now see the reason why you put the following directions above! Does anybody know a good satnav you can customise your route on, or how you can do in on the inbuilt app on an iPhone?

Not useful to any kind of show conversation but add points of the journey Errin mentioned as destinations (you can usually have a couple per journey). So find somewhere along that route and stick that in.

Yes the problem is that the M45 runs right past the back of the property so satnav will show that you are there when actually still some miles away. Dog agility shows are in the field next to the M45 so compounds the problem for dog people. The route you took is I suspect the bridlepath that does get to the venue but definitely not for lorries. Just follow my directions and you will be ok.

Ok, thank you. Just to check there aren’t any low bridges on that route you have suggested is there? My lorry is fairly tall..!

All the road signs leading up to the bridge say it is 11' 6". On the bridge itself it says 12' 6". There are two bridges close together, first is high, it is the second that is an arch bridge on a slight angle. I know double decker buses can't get through it but other lorries do as it is one of the routes to a major rail hub.

Hmm, ok thank you I’ll have to have a check as my lorry is higher than most other normal horseboxes anyway. Failing that, I’m guessing I’ll have to go down the little lane I did in my car and over the bridge?

If this really is too low a bridge for you I can give you a couple of routes round it. Do not attempt the back lane with the little canal bridge. There is a low bridge on that route too.

Sorry I think I got it wrong about where you went. The route you tried should be ok. Not a very nice lane but loads of horseboxes do use it when going to Onley.

The bridge in that photo will be too low unfortunately. Yes the way I went is the way suggested on the schedule but that’s a relief if I can go that way and follow the satnav. Yes bridge is a little narrow but if lorries go that way I’m guessing it’s fine.

Lorry is 7.5 tonne but is overheight than a standard one to allow room for shire horses.

....They have released pre-entry numbers.....does anyone have any idea how to estimate class times based on these? Being very new to the showing world, I am clueless!

No problem, what classes are you doing?
I’ve entered plaited ridden senior and restricted ridden senior, but may take a view if the times are crazy, and depending on if I can get anyone to come with me who is prepared to hang around for ages after an early start!

I haven't entered yet as competing somewhere else on the Saturday which I fancy doing although the head tells me should do the SSADL given it is an "Olympia" qualifier". They are doing entries on the day albeit expensive. If it stays as hot as it is saying, may switch and do the SSADL rather than go out in the heat on Saturday.

Are you thinking of heading to SSADL given that its indoors, or deciding its just too hot?!

Hi. No I’m not going. Partly the heat but I’ve got a dodgy knee so those things together going to give it a miss. If not for my knee might have gone for the earlier class but I can’t run well enough at present to show him off properly. Good luck if you go. Gosh that sounds a lot of excuses but you do need to be fit to run almost a figure of eight on a surface.

I "think" you are allowed to deputise the run up to your groom ? I'm definitely too old to run far on a surface unless it's very flat/firm!

Sadly don’t have anyone who comes with me. ☹️. Last year we ran out of puff and I started running this year to make sure I was fitter. Was funny last year as judge said they really liked my horse and had his eyes on him soon as he came in and asked what happened in the show. I said I ran out of energy. Doh.

I have coerced a friend who doesn't mind the very early start......I would struggle to get back on board my 17.3 without my stepladder, so need a "groom" to cope with the strip/run-up portion of the ridden classes!
Mine has evented in the past in 30 degrees, admittedly when younger/fitter, but I think I will suffer more than him, and am taking masses of water/sugar beet/frozen water bottles for me/fans etc!
