Help shopping please ?
Looking for lightweight stable rug, not fleece or thermatex type. Thinking 50g, just a thin layer.
Cant seem to find anything lighter than a 100g though. Any suggestions?
Currently popping on a 40g turnout on warmer nights, but would prefer something more breathable.

bucas market a 50g one, called the Irish stable rug
Google turns up a Swish one too

I have a really light horseware one but god knows where it came from, its lighter than my 100g amigo stable rug and i love it.

Bucas do the 50g stable rugs, as do Ruggles, which are ok but not the same quality as Bucas or Horseware.
The lightest weight stable rug made by Amigo is a 100g which is great, but I wish they'd do a 50g version.

I don’t know if they still do them, but think decathlon had some at one stage. Was worried the quality wouldn’t be fantastic, but mine is still going strong after 4.5 years!

Are the Rambo AirMax ones too much like fleece? Someone said those are equivalent to 50g. Or what about using a rug liner? They often come in 50g versions. Not all of them have surcingles, but some do and I suppose you could use one of the elastic ones that go all the way around!

Thanks everyone :)
Friend has the swish one and says it's not worth it as fittings have pulled away over light use.

I've thought about a liner but my rollers are too big and being picky, I'd prefer surcingle, tho I suppose I could add them to mine.
I'll follow up leads as mentioned above :)

How about a lined sheet? I have a Rambo which is fairly tough outer fabric so already a bit more substantial than a normal cotton sheet, then a cotton lining. I’d imagine that to be not a million miles off the equivalent?

Ahh sorry just read the whole thread and seen about your friend. I have only used mine this winter so will see how it washes, I’ve also had a turn out off them this year first time round so will see how that holds up ?

Had a look this morning.
He has an amigo which I think is the 100g but he has a mio which is a poly, not a sheet or fleece, but much thinner than any other stable rug I've come across, it has the cross surcingles but has a single Velcro fastening over the chest instead of buckles/surcingle type attachments. Sadly there was no label in it and the owner has had it a long time and it doesn't seem to be on the HW website. Sorry.

this is what mine is, it's brilliant, the velcro chest fastening is like the liners have, it's secure but doesn't get caught on haynets (that's why i bought it as my mare has a habit of attaching herself to things and destroying them :p) but it is definitely just a normal rug. i think a well-used 100g liner (once all the loft is gone) could be made up into something similar if you sewed surcingles on.

If you haven’t had 100g stable rugs I think you’ll be surprised how thin they are. So well worth a look.
don’t forget a 100g turnout seems more substantial because of the fabric.
my amigo 100g is pretty much just an outer and an inner. Anything lighter than that I’d be tempted to use a waffle rug

I've just bought (via their Ebay store as I rate their customer protection) a Ruggles 50g stable rug with a really lovely fleece collar. It fits well, and everyone has been saying it looks like he has a dressing gown on! I love it. I would give them a second chance if your first eperience wasn't too awful.
