I'm looking for a dressage hanoverian, westfalen or KWPN stallion. For my westfalen bred mare. Her sire is Dimension, out of Donnerhall / Alicante. Dam is Romika, out of Renaldo / Duellant lines.

Shes, 16.1hh, athletic, with good bone. She has natural elivation, and has produced some fab foals, 09 foal was to classic juan and got 9.11 elite at BEF.
Shes due in 4 weeks with another CJ foal. but were looking for what I would class as a 'proper' dressage stallion for her 2011 foal, rather than an allrounder.

Her only 'fault' if you can call it that. Is she is a true alpha mare, so the stallion has to be calm and sensible, nothing spooky, or particularly sharp. I wouldnt want to breed something I wasnt happy to keep!

I'd rather a UK based stallion so I could view personally. But if an overseas stallion was known to be very good temperment wise, I'd possibly use them.

So what would you very knowledgeable people suggest?

So far I was looking towards, but dont know of there temperments:

Cardinar - Argentan / Aberwitz
Demonstrator - Pic bube / Dynamo
Fontainbleau - Wanderer / Wenzel I
Medoc - Maat x Goldfinger
Walentino - Weltmeyer

Although I quite like:
Bentley - Belissimo M / Weltmeyer
De Champ - Daddy cool / Caprimond
Rubinero - Rubenstein / Ex Libris

Help, I really need to get a short list, but it keeps getting longer

Heres a pic of the mare

Rousseau is a very popular stallion in the US and rightly so. He throws lovely foals with quite excellent movement and most importantly, superb temperaments.

He's gorgous, do you know any of his offspring personally ? or is he renound for his temperment? I've not personally come across him before

Totilas, isnt for me : ) and I'd rather go for a stallion with progeny on the ground

I have an 8 year old mare by Cardinar (out of Weltmeyer dam) and her temperament is incredibly good. She is very gentle and loving on the ground and is a straightforward ride with a good work ethic, plus naturally forward. She was very easy to break and produce. She has also thrown two foals with similar temperaments (and is due to Sandreo right now - so pretty excited about that one!). She will be ridden again after her foal is weaned as she is such good fun to ride. Good luck in your choice :-)

I have a Rousseau 5 yr old mare, out of a jumping bred mare. 16.2 1/2, compact, uphill, beautiful head, very rideable and has the most fantastic canter. Really friendly easy horse to deal with. Sensitive to ride without being a loon, always tries to do what is asked and finds the work easy. Has won 3 out of her first 4 tests, coming second in the other. very tempted to use Rousseau on my 3 yr old this year.

Would also add that although sensitive to the aids (which I love in a sport horse), she is bombproof in traffic, hacks on her own, travels well and loves people. She is ridden in a rubber snaffle with cavesson noseband and has a fantastically active hind leg. Would have to be offered a lot of money to part with her.

Rousseau is available through Elitestallions.co.uk

I came strongly recommend 'Don Laurie II' who is described by the stable personeel as 'a walking teddybear'. When I went to view him I was allowed to go into his stall and pat him ... something that surprised me because usually the studowners are very hands-off. This was another affirmation of his gentle character.

My mare had a fantastic colt ... leggy, tall, beautiful exterieur, movement to die for, and an 'old soul' character ... very calm and collected.

He is by Don Schufro x Lauries Crusador XX out of the mother of Weltmeyer. These are the links:

Of your list I would say I love Medoc - stunning stallion, performance tested, you name it!!! Otherwise off your list is Fontainbleu who, at his age, moves incredibly well and is ust a poppet.

Have you also considered Millenium???

The mares grandsire is Donnerhall, so couldnt have him as grandsire on both sides

I second Wolkenderry, he's outstanding, his dam line is londonderry so has a fair amount of tb influence so is more of a modern warmblood.

I have a colt by Movistar who is the most laid back, gentle gentleman you could ever hope to meet! Most of his stock also have this temperament, but bear in mind that movistar is by Jazz so there is always the chance of getting that head come through. Also I'm not aware that Movistar is available this year, so would have to use frozen.

Also look at Rubin Star N, he's more of a traditional boned warmblood, if you like demonstrator you'll likely like him too, he's bred some lovely stock and again from those I've heard they've all been very well tempered.

Millenium unortunately did not cover until his retirement at 18 and so his eldest progeny are I believe only 3 yr olds. He has hwoever, even though starting so late, proven himself an awesome sire of young, promising horses, especially eventers....siring Time Line - highestscoring eventer in the futurity series last year( I believe) as well as other high 1st Premium stock.

This is his website which shows some of his stock:
http://www.hobgoblins-stud.com/millenium.htm

and this was their recent open day with stock presented by him as well as others to give you an idea.

I have neighbour with a 2 yr old Millenium filly. She is stunning. Very quality, out of a half TB mare, and has the most fantastic movement. However, at 2 (in August) she stands 16.2 and does not look like stopping! She is also very bold, almost too bold.

Are there any pics on here? How do I search for ashbank?

Thanks Sally - here is a picture of my foal - she is so very correct, and is the most lovely personable foal out there. Ignore all the white - I breed for movement, conformation and temperament, not white bits! (Might have to take up shares in a shampoo company though).

And another recommendation would be Don Ricoss - here is my 2010 colt aged just four days. Another super correct foal. I've forgotten the breeding of your mare already, but if the pedigrees aren't too close then I would recommend him as a Hanoverian dressage sire to anyone.

Have you looked at Keystone Rhondeo or Dimaggio? I especially like Rhondeo but not sure what sort he throws…….

Rhondeo, unfortunately isn’t regestered, han / kwpn / west. Dimaggio shares donnerhall as a grandsire, with the mare, so too close : (

Millenium unortunately did not cover until his retirement at 18 and so his eldest progeny are I believe only 3 yr olds……

This slightly puts me off, as I like to see progeny ridden. But I also like older stallions, that have competed to a good age, so you know there sound and have long ridden carrers

You foal is fab, just to confirm shes by Rousseau ? So many names have been mentioned, I don’t want to get mixed up : )

I love Don Ricoss, but again related through donnerhall. I love that bloodline hence getting the mare. But looking at pics, I always pic out donnerhall stallions first ; )

Ashbank's foal is with us at present, and I can vouch for her very friendly approach to humans, and she is easy in every way. I would have no hesitation using him, and her movemement is superb too.

Well Millenium is STILL sound - at 21+ I think!!! Having competed to the level he has and to STILL be sound is something special indeed!!! I have neverseen one love piafffe the way he does!!!

My thoughts exactly, thats why I'm more for older proven stallions.

Have tried to get 2 in foal to Millenium and both failed to take despite lots of trying!!

Oh dear, Do your mares normally take first time? was the sperm checked your end ?

I know for a fact that he has a very high motility and so that may have been a one off!or other things...don't know the situation. I once heard someone say that they could almost see his swimmers moving without the scope!!! Maybe ring the stud and ask for info on his fertility, etc as sometimes as well, even with the most fertile stallions, some just don't mix well with others....same with people.
