if he is pratting about rearing, bucking, plunging, i would take him back to lunging and long reining

no way would i want anything on the head that restricts cause if he goes up an loses balance he has no chance of recovery if the head is fixed

he is getting away with far to much, i would want all that nipped in the bud

i only use the standing to stop the head going high enough to come off the bit


riding forwards and loosing the contact, and anticipation of what starts him thinking about rearing is the way i go

Zero point in long reining and lunging - he is foot perfect at home. He's just being a prat at venues because he's 5 and he's excited.

If I feel the martingale isn't the right answer then it'll come off.

J as a five yr old did some very athletic airs above ground the first few shows we went to including doing them inhand, he did it very politely with no pulling me about but apparently they looked very disconcerting, the squeaks of excitement added to the spectacle. He is a very level headed soul generally but the first few parties were "interesting" at times. By the end of that summer he was fine.
