i stupidly, despite this being my 8th, cannot remember if we ever starved for 24 hours at 8 / 9 weeks old.

mist is 9 weeks today and has had diarrhoea since i brought her home last weekend. She was checked by the vet and is really bright in herself; vet thought it was just a settling in thing. since the raw puppy complete Natural Instinct id bought for her didnt seem to be doing any good for now, she's been on small meals of cooked chicken breast and probiotic from the vet. however she is still squirty with traces of blood:( Im keeping a very very very (!) close eye on her and if she isnt right by Monday will pop back to the vets but in the meantime am wondering about starving her for 24 hours to give her gut a rest. I know we do this with the older dogs but am swithering as she is so young. However this week the poor lass has had the stress of moving and leaving her littermates, being vaccinated and had a 3 day wormer course which just finished yesterday.

My first course of action would be to check with breeder that rest of litter are ok. I've never had to starve a pup so young but should be ok as long as he takes plenty of fluids. Can you put him back on the food the breeder used, I always like to keep pups on the same food for a while. Hope he improves soon.

thanks MM, yeh the rest of the litter are ok. i still have some of the chudleys she came with so i could do.... i suspect you may be right in that Ive changed too much too soon.

thanks for all the thoughts guys. Am pleased to report that yes we starved her for 24 hours, made sure she was drinking plenty, and it clearly gave her digestive system the rest it needed. She started out on small meals of cooked chicken every 2 hours along with the probiotic and first poop was solid:cool: Am going to keep her on chicken this week and try really slowly reintroducing the Natural Instinct chicken puppy after that and see how we go.
