Im having problems with static from one of the horses, its either with his stable rug or fleece. Ive tried taking it off, rubbing him down etc but each morning the crackling makes him jump

Any ideas how to get rid without having to wash the rugs? they wont dry in this weather

no idea, i swear jay laughs every time i get a shock off his fleece

Fleeces certainly seem the worst for it - I get electric shocks if I wear one!

One of my horse's rugs does this and it seems better if I slide it off in one movement and then make sure I touch something else (gate/post/etc) before I touch the horse. That way I get the shock and she doesn't - not perfect but better than upsetting her!

Someone posted about this earlier so will copy and paste

This sometimes happens with totos fleeces and always does with his fly fug. We have found that if you sort of roll them up instead of pulling them off they don't seem to do it as bad! And as milliepops has said touching something else before you touch the horse again seems to help too. Hope this helps

Use a cotton sheet under the other rugs, its the only thing that has stoped it happening for me. Also i found not washing the fleece rugs as often also helps.

I have found if when you take the rug off you then rub the horses shoulder gently with the next rug you are going to put on it seems to absorb the static without the crackle! Or if about to ride rub over with a towel or something. It doesn't work all the time but might be worth a try. Can be a pain with a highly strung youngster I know!

The cure!!!!

Go get a tumble dryer fabric softner sheet!

Place inbetween rugs and hey presto the static will stop straight away!
