Yay or nay?

I've decided one of my Decathlon bargains needs to go because they are gaping at the back and are somehow pulling my underwear down. It's not a great feeling. So, good excuse to get something else. I like the look of riding leggings/tights, no zip, big phone pocket on the thigh, look super comfy. But pretty much all the ones I've seen have some form of sticky bum/knee which I'm just not sure about. How sticky are they really? I don't want to feel like I'm going to leave them behind when I stand out of the saddle or feel like I have to peel myself off!

Specifically looking at some Shires Aubrion ones - anyone recommend?

I have Aubrion breeches with sticky dots and I quite like them.
I also have some Mark Todd tights with just sticky knees so they might be worth a look if you prefer no sticky on the bum?
I’m not sure they have a phone pocket though.

I had a very splurgey trip to Old Mill today ? I bought a pair of bridleway tights with the sticky knees and wore them to my lesson this afternoon. I can't go full on sticky bum, but I recommend these! Phone pocket is a good size too.

Not keen on sticky bums myself, not so bad on a leather saddle but too sticky on synthetic. Also, they gather bits of hay and horse hair. This was over 20 years ago, they may be different now ?

I’ve got some of the more traditional faux suede seats and gel ones. They just stop sliding around too easily but you’re not stuck to anything. Gel are better in some ways as you don’t get the pulling issue around the crotch you can get with the faux suede. The gel generally gradually wears away though or can start to peel. After riding in them for years anything else feels very slippery.

Ooh looks like I need to just get some and give them a try - thanks all for the suggestions, I'm checking them out now ready for pay day!

I have worn nothing but sticky bums since the day I nearly slid backwards off a Clydesdale going up a steep hill when I was wearing a cheap pair of nylon breeches :D. That was a very unpleasant feeling - and we have a lot of steep hills round here.o_O

I'm sold! :D

I did find a pair of non sticky ones on Decathlon website but it's like they went the other way and they look super shiny/sleek. Will pass on those as not up for feeling like saddle has been greased!

I got some last year for the first time and liked them but eventually, after trying a few pairs, have decided I like the non-stick ones I've had since 1995.

My first sticky pair I've kept (Dublin ones with an overall sticky ish pattern) but the others felt like I was glued to the saddle. Overall, I think the non stick ones make my position more relaxed and more responsive to the horse.

I was against sticky bum ones but since there were few without I just bought some. I find they don't stop you doing anything. And they definitely help with spooky youngsters. They just give you a slightly more secure seat imo. You don't feel sellotaped to the saddle or anything.
can you recommend me some size 18

Personally I like a suede seat, more durable, gives grip without preventing movement. However silicon done right is not awful, I have a pair of pikeur breeches that are great for grip but not sticky and suede is foul when it's wet. The pikeur were quite pricey though, I'd also recommend eqcouture for silicon riding tights, they're a good weight of fabric and well made for the price - go up to an xl for sure which would probably be ok for an 18 @ILuvCowparsely they're very stretchy

After several attempts, I've found a couple of pairs of Aubrion tights that I really like the fit of. They don't seem overly sticky but I do think a bit of grip is needed due to the fabric most of the tights I've tried have had (they seem too 'slidey' otherwise?) Not ridden in them yet but looking forward to testing them out.

Also... discovered wadswick country store. Wowza was I excited! ?? Thankfully just bought the leggings and not the whole shop including decking out the horse I don't have ??

Just wondering if anyone’s come across a way of making ‘Sticky Bums’ less sticky? Does the silicone wear off after a few washes. Been looking at a few online and there seem to be more ‘sticky’ ones around than non sticky. Looking for winter weight in any colour just don’t want to be stuck to the lorry / car seat.

I moved over to the dark side and invested in some Mountain Horse Diana full seat silicone breeches. I was a sceptic before. Surprisingly I find them comfortable to wear both on and off horse. I don’t stick to the leather seats in my 4x4 when driving, either.

They give just the right amount of extra grip without welding you into position.

I really like the Aubrion Albany tights with a sticky bum. Not too sticky that you’re “stuck”, but a bit of friction which can be helpful. Nice quality and holding up well. I have black, navy and green.

Wash with them the right way round not inside out as per the directions - it gets less sticky then

Sticky bums on riding tights are definitely less sticky when you accidentally wear them inside out (got dressed in the dark) and don’t notice until you’ve been riding for about 20 minutes, wondering why they feel more slippery than usual. 🫣 😂

I much prefer them, and I generally find the ones that have smaller sticky bits aren’t so sticky (logical really). I’d definitely avoid the ones that have thick, solid stripes of silicone. My first pair had those on the knees and were way too much sticky.
