Well they have never stopped me falling off…
I was very glad that I was wearing my sticky bums when trying to settle my very anxious jiggly horse on my recent trail riding holiday. I kept my seat and my stirrups.

However, if she had decided to press the eject button (I bailed voluntarily before we got to that point) I have no doubt that gravity would have taken over 🙈.

I have Shires Aubrion and they're not overly sticky. The Ariat ones are stickier. If yyou just want nice tights, then I'd go for exercise ones, like Sweaty Betty (in the sale!) or walking tights.

I much prefer the Pikeur full seat seat ones but the blackfort sticky bums are good for hacking bouncy young horses and they're not expensive (and good quality)

After I realised I would ride long term, I bought myself lovely expensive riding breeches. I did notice a difference wearing nice breeches and soft long boots.
Then I put on weight in Covid lock down and had to buy a size larger, cheap or second hand on ebay. I have noticed no difference at all when out riding. Cheap, stretchy ones were a bit chilly yesterday. But we have thermal long johns I can wear under them.

How quick they lose their stick, seems to depend on the brand and how big the 'dots' are. My full seat Pikeur Latinas [nice on the short of waist] with little dots totally lost their stick after 8 years and are now relegated to wearing for non riding horse chores. But I'd never go back to to suede full seats, they are just too hot in the Australian summer.

The new thing is hybrids, crosses between breeches and leggings. My black Cavallo Camille grips have the silicone in the pattern of swirling bits and chains, which I quite like. Most comfy breeches ever. My B Vertigo/Horze breeches are also nice.

My current coach is Mary Wanless trained, with a strong biomechanics focus, so we use lots of really subtle shifts of seat and I never feel stuck, just secure.

Another recommendation for those of you looking for not-so-sticky sticky bums. I needed (well, wanted really! ;) ) some new mid-weight legwear for autumn, so I treated myself to some Countrydale Protech breggings and Motion leggings (ended up with two pairs of the latter, as they offered me a deal on a second pair after checkout, and it was too good to refuse!). They've just arrived and they just happen to have smaller silicone dots, so they won't be so sticky. They seem really comfy (no awkward seams) and the breggings in particular are really smart. The only downside is that they're more lightweight than mid-weight in terms of what I was after (but still heavier than my Ariat Eos summer ones), but I'm still very pleased with them.
