Still no rain or Grass!!!!!

Cant believe seeing the news Ireland having so much rain having floods OMG its like a desert here in Shropshire. Grass is still not growing and the ground is hard and dusty, feeding hay 24/7 Its going to be an expensive winter !!
 
I feel your pain, we've had no rain since about June (other than a half an hour or so a couple of times) we spending about €550 a month on hay! It is due to rain all this week, so I am praying we get some grass before the cold weather arrives....fingers crossed
 
bone dry here too, we dug a gate post this morning and its incredably dry even 3 ft down. I even watered the tubs in the garden this morning.

I may even go mad and leave the rainsheet off the BGL and let him get covered in mud for the first time in aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages:D:D:D
 
If you've put seed down, watch the wind doesn't blow it away along with the dry topsoil, or the pigeons eat it...

It's driest year for many years in East Anglia. The village ponds (normally 6' deep - I know cos I remember measuring their depth about 4 years ago as part of a pond-clearance-volunteer-working-party) are all 3/4 dried-out. Yesterday at dawn a heron was helping himself to the few bottom-dwelling fish left in the shallow puddle that is now one of the ponds. The other pond has turned itself into a massive reedbed marsh, totally choked-up with vegetation and zero water.

So we too have dry cracked ground and no grass.
 
It hasn't rained for months by me, Hereford, not far form OP. Fields are so dry, I've had the odd light shower maybe one every 7-10days.

I'm not complaining, ESP as livery yard still has lots of grass, the only issue beening that the grass seed didn't bed in well in the spring and after mine stands in the corner the thin covering as dried off. So that's going to be a mud hole when the rain comes.
 
Have some of our rain and wind, am sure I saw a couple of people kayaking down the road this morning - oh, have just seen a speedboat go by!!!
 
Not a blade of grass to be found here either. Can't complain, actually, fat cob is the slimmest she's ever been, it's a novelty to have to feed her up for once! Also the lack of mud means that they can stay out 24/7 a bit longer, we're on clay in the bottom of a valley so once the mud sets in they have to have restricted turnout only.
 
None at uni or home :( ground is so hard that I'm gald the boys on a bit of a break and only walking as I wouldnt be able to do any more anyway. My phone says it supposed to rain tomorrow and as bad as it sounds I cant wait :D
 
:mad: We had our entire months worth of rain in 36 hours and it's still raining:mad:

Crazy month, two weeks ago we cut and bought in an entirely unexpected third cut of hay!
 
Yep,hardley any rain in worcestershire this yr at all.
My horse is just on the boarder of shropshire and the ground is solid.all the horses are usually in at night by now,but as its not a bog yet all are still out 24/7.plenty of grass to keep them going though,theyve(10) been on 22 acres now for last 2 +months,then when they come in they'll move onto another field.
 
I'm in shropshire too and we've got nothing! Extremely desert like, never seen fields like it. The poor horses are so miserable out there, spend all day waiting to come in despite being given hay constantly. I absolutely hate rain but a little bit wouldn't hurt!!
 
you cant even see where i live on the weather raday its been covered by a big YELLOW blob of rain all day. the utility room is flooded, the cellar is flooded, the stables are rathe soggy and the yard is more like a swimming pool.
Anyone want to come get this rain away from me???
 
we have had so much rain todayn i brought my horses in, we have loads of grass, my summer paddocks are still green and the horse poo is very green too. My winter paddocks are extremely lush grass is currently about 10 inches long in there, despite having taken a great haylage crop off them in July. We will be moving horses across to the winter paddocks at the beginnng of November and I will have to be careful about weight as so much grass out there.
 
We don't seem to have had rain for weeks, but we seem to have plenty of grass! In fact, horses have been moved to a new field and it has soooooo much grass, they are looking a little tubby!

You're not kidding! One group of mares and foals trashed their electric fencing this morning and I was struggling to get stakes into the ground! But I WILL have heavy rain on Thursday - ALL the forecasts have been wrong to date but thisone WILL be right as we have our mare gradings on Thursday so it's the worst possible day for a downpour!!:mad:
 
No real rain to speak of here all year I have been feeding hay since November last year.. Field is mainly dust and rocks but plus side is I haven't had to worry about fat horses. My big fear is that once it rains it won't know when to stop

^ This. Started raining heavily about 4.30 this afternoon in BANES and wind picked up too. I have about a foot of lush grass in my winter field and plenty still in the summer field. I was going to get someone to come and do a 2nd cut for hayledge. Worried I have too much grass for the Welshie.
