I'm on the herts/beds border and I'm driving 3.5 miles each way to the farm each morning before 9am. I've not seen a police car yet but have horse passport in my car just in case I get stopped.

I spoke to a friend who is a detective for a Midlands police force ( I won't say which one). She thinks it's only matter a time before half the police force have CV as they aren't practising any social distancing in the office, out on patrol or on call outs and have no protective clothing.

We saw three police cars tonight. I've lived in the same village fourteen years and never seen so many, it's making me really anxious to go out - one had stopped a car which I saw later by the roadside with police tape round it, but no indication of why it was like that. So it could be unconnected to the restrictions but still anxiety provoking. They definitely were not social distancing either which is worrying as my mother is a carer so obviously absolutely must not be exposed.

if you live in Wiltshire, it was on the radio that the police were stopping cars to see why the drivers were out at night and a car was confiscated due to the driver having no insurance

Nope, not Wiltshire. It was about 3.20pm today. Haven't checked local news, really trying to limit exposure to it as getting super paranoid.

To be fair to Derbyshire Police, who I think have gone completely over the top in other ways, it is normal to dye the blue lagoon when there are a lot of people around, to discourage swimmers because it's a pretty blue colour because it's toxic.

Well Derbyshire have been the most heavily criticised force.

They have threatened a shop keeper with prosecution fir criminal damage for putting chalk marks on the pavement to keep her customers 2m apart while waiting to come into the store. She's limiting numbers inside due to social distancing.

They have followed and filmed people who are following the guidelines by walking in pairs and observing social distancing. Then posted it on social media inaccurately implying people are breaking the law.

They have tweeted suggesting that cycling in lycra is not permitted under the rules.

They have put dye in the water at a beauty spot to discourage visitors.

They have used ANPR on vehicles being used lawfully to identify how far from home they are.

They are repeatedly giving misleading statements about the new laws.

This is not acceptable hence they have been criticised by a supreme court judge and former government minister.

I have every sympathy regarding loose dogs, and this absolutely shouldn't be happening but people are allowed to go for walks and can continue to use rights of way.
Theyve got a point about the lycra.
Back in the good old days when we had cafes..there was nowt worse than sitting eating your sarnie..then turning round and getting a pair of bollocks in your face !?

Because of its startling colour it was a magnet for day trippers. Since they dye it routinely then it was an obvious solution to too many people gathering in one place.

Don't get me wrong, Derbyshire Police have gone way over the top, but probably not in that instance, which was done in association with Buxton Civic Association.

Perhaps give them a call about your specific location so they can loiter and deal with one ones who should not be there. I have every sympathy as still people are disregarding the stay at home requests. Rather pleased McDonalds et al have closed as we no longer have their litter out on the road.
What?????? Im in total mourning for macdonalds
Every morning i wake up drive to the nearest macdonalds order 2 coffees the brush my teeth in the washroom then pick my coffees up.
I agree about the litter though..however believe me litter will be a big problem everywhere soon.

A friend sent me this which says the sole director can be furloughed. View attachment 43274
You should be able to claim yourself for 80% of your average earnings of the past year.
Hey cheers for that Meleeka, spoke to my accountant who confirmed. She's done some calculations and will get back to me as I need to work out if its in my best interests to be furloughed or try to get temp part time work in the meantime. It's brilliant news for people like myself though :)

There will - I hope- be a rash of appeals once the courts re-open and very few of these fines will actually hold up. It may well be that CPS will simply stop defending them. Police forces have been urged to take a consistent and reasonable apporoach - but it is certainly true there are a lot of police around with very litttle to do other than traffic work. On one hand that is good - Surrey Police tweet a record number of seizures for no insurance / MOT etc. But on the other it is worth knowing exactly what the regulations really do say and being able to explain - calmly and politiely - why you considered your journey to fall within that scope.

I'm not for one moment saying people should disobey the current requests. And I really feel for landowners who have massive numbers of extra walkers potentially spreading CV onto gate handles / latches etc. But some of the police responses - perhaps particualrly Derbyshire's - have not put the force, either thier own or as a whole, in a good light.

Garages round here that do MOT are shut or fully booked from last weds, other half had to head off yesterday for 2 weeks lambing, his MOT was due last Thursday so just before the cut off date, he left it late but it was booked in to be done-garage shut at close of business weds (no warning), it had had a pre MOT check so knew it would pass, couldn't get it done so has had to take my van, leaves me without a vehicle and I start lambing in a week.
I know others are dealing with so much worse, I am just at a loss as to why the government did not just out an instant halt to MOT needing to be completed as normal, it leaves us to try and get it done during lambing (impossible) and almost everywhere being shut and if they are not they will be booked.
Lambing equals dawn till dusk work with spare time and I can't get to the shops before lambing starts again now to get any shopping as I don't have a legal vehicle.
Well that's that off my chest and I hope it's all I have to worry about during this terrible time.

They did. There is a 6 month exemption to all MOTs.

All cars vans and bikes exempt from needing a MOT from 30th March

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/...d-mot-exemption-in-battle-against-coronavirus

I hope that brightens your day a little, Twiggy
Err, that's for vehicles due from 30th March ycbm, not for the preceding dates.
Poor Twiggys OHs car was due on Thursday 26th, if I read that correctly? If so, its fallen out of the timescale, like a good number would have been if due last week.

Yep that's it (well apart from the fact I got the date wrong it was due Fri not thurs), we won't have a choice but to use it when he gets back as it is his lambing vehicle, my van won't go round the fields and even if it could he is not putting blackie ewe in it as it will be wrecked in no time.

Just had the police pull up outside our gate on site and speak to two Severn Trent guys working there, presumably to ask them why they are still working or why they are standing within two foot of each other, who knows? I normally park on the road outside site as I struggle to carry the drawing folders and my laptop (told to take what we need home in case we have to work from home) although we have borrowed parking about 1/4 mile away. Luckily we are now allowed to park on site so I parked on there today, now thanking my lucky stars that I did so :)

Bad enough getting a fine for parking on the pavement, now we could get a fine for being at work too.

What a bugger, and a stupid situation, no wonder you are cross. All they needed to do was make the exemption immediate :(

They need to change the website that I pointed to, it says ALL vehicles until you read the small print.

Yes, leaves us in a bit of a muddle, everyone says don't worry, no problem, it's three hr drive to where he is lambing just now and if the MOT did not effect the insurance then it would be worth the risk and arguing the point if it became an issue, but no insurance is not worth it as it potentially affects someone else if there is an accident.

Yep, drove to get my groceries yesterday. Seems fly tipping is regarded as an essential trip by some.

They have been dying the 'blue lagoon' black since at least 2013 and it is nothing to do with Covid-19 or stopping people taking photos. Apparently the reason it is such a bright blue colour is due to toxic chemicals from the quarry stone in it and they dye it black to discourage people swimming in it for health reasons:

They have but they did do a facebook post about doing it because of people travelling re the current covid situation.
it won't let me copy and paste the post, complete with photos in protection gear.

Yesterday we received reports that people were congregating at the ‘Blue Lagoon’ in Harpur Hill, Buxton.

No doubt this is due to the picturesque location and the lovely weather (for once!) in Buxton.

However, the location is dangerous and this type of gathering is in contravention of the current instruction of the UK Government.

With this in mind, we have attended the location this morning and used water dye to make the water look less appealing.
This is a regular tactic that we use to reduce ASB and we work in partnership with HPBC and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service. However, as things stand, it has never been so important to discourage these types of gatherings.
The photos below show our efforts this morning...and yes we did laugh at PC Parkinson and PCSO Small in the white suites!!???
Please stay at home ?

Not all garages are shut, my husband's is still open only in the mornings now, his problem is getting any parts that are needed due to parts shops closing or running low.
Same with my husband's garage - it's getting the parts that is the problem. Twiggy2, hope you get yours sorted, I am surprised your usual garage, who presumably did the pre MOT, have not been in touch to do the MOT, unless, of course, they are ill.
