Stopped by police today

Yep, drove to get my groceries yesterday. Seems fly tipping is regarded as an essential trip by some.

That and looting. I am so convinced that this will happen, livery yards and agricutural buildings will be prime targets by robbing bas**rds. Now's the time to take home any expensive equipment, saddlery, rugs, air jackets whilst you can't ride.

I've read of a fair bit of sheep rustling going on at the moment too.

Well Derbyshire have been the most heavily criticised force.

They have threatened a shop keeper with prosecution fir criminal damage for putting chalk marks on the pavement to keep her customers 2m apart while waiting to come into the store. She's limiting numbers inside due to social distancing.

They have followed and filmed people who are following the guidelines by walking in pairs and observing social distancing. Then posted it on social media inaccurately implying people are breaking the law.

They have tweeted suggesting that cycling in lycra is not permitted under the rules.

They have put dye in the water at a beauty spot to discourage visitors.

They have used ANPR on vehicles being used lawfully to identify how far from home they are.

They are repeatedly giving misleading statements about the new laws.

This is not acceptable hence they have been criticised by a supreme court judge and former government minister.

I have every sympathy regarding loose dogs, and this absolutely shouldn't be happening but people are allowed to go for walks and can continue to use rights of way.

They have but they did do a facebook post about doing it because of people travelling re the current covid situation.

Yesterday we received reports that people were congregating at the ‘Blue Lagoon’ in Harpur Hill, Buxton.

No doubt this is due to the picturesque location and the lovely weather (for once!) in Buxton.

However, the location is dangerous and this type of gathering is in contravention of the current instruction of the UK Government.

With this in mind, we have attended the location this morning and used water dye to make the water look less appealing.
This is a regular tactic that we use to reduce ASB and we work in partnership with HPBC and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service. However, as things stand, it has never been so important to discourage these types of gatherings.
The photos below show our efforts this morning...and yes we did laugh at PC Parkinson and PCSO Small in the white suites!!???

Police in Derbyshire, England, have dyed a local "Blue Lagoon" black to stop people coming up to the picturesque spot during the coronavirus lockdown.
The "Blue Lagoon" is located in Harpur Hill, Buxton, and has been attracting visitors for years due to its vibrant colour and stunning scenery.
However, the pretty pool is actually toxic quarry water containing rubbish and dead animals, according to the BBC.
Posting on Facebook, police said they received reports of people congregating around the lagoon, and had dyed it black to make the beauty spot less appealing.

I could be filmed by a drone on a similar path almost every day. I walk from home, there was no evidence they were not also walking from home. It was an outrageous thing to show on the six o'clock news.

Apart from all the cars parked up, blockades moved and people ambling off for a walk in the peaks ..we’ve still had people driving down for a walk, dog walk, whatever here..that’s Not exercising from your front door..how thick is the minority nation..

They aren't thick. They are cooped up, fed up, frustrated and depressed. I feel so sorry for anyone stuck in a flat or a modern estate house with a minuscule garden told to exercise from their front door. Especially if they have open countryside very short drive away.

They did. There is a 6 month exemption to all MOTs.

All cars vans and bikes exempt from needing a MOT from 30th March

I get it completely but I also have compassion for people who are not lucky enough to live in a National Park like I do.

To understand their behaviour does not mean you have to agree with it.

I appreciate that the blue lagoon is normally dyed to discourage swimming but it was done earlier this year purely to make it look ugly to discourage walkers.

The new laws allow people to go walking. They do not prohibit people from driving to take their exercise and the police seem incapable of understanding this. It may be unwise and inconsiderate to drive in order to exercise, indeed it is downright irresponsible to visit honeypot locations, but it is not illegal to do so.

The police also know that it is entirely legal to travel to work if your work cannot be done from home but they insist upon giving people a hard time for going about their lawful business. I know people who have become so anxious about being stopped by the police that they have closed their businesses despite the fact that they can work in isolation. This is not good for the individual or the economy.

It really worries me that not only are the police taking their powers too far but people seem to want them to go further. This seems a dangerous road to go down.

There will - I hope- be a rash of appeals once the courts re-open and very few of these fines will actually hold up.

The Courts are still open.

The justice system is given keyworker status. Many are working remotely but there are still skeleton staff attending.

Same with my husband's garage - it's getting the parts that is the problem. Twiggy2, hope you get yours sorted, I am surprised your usual garage, who presumably did the pre MOT, have not been in touch to do the MOT, unless, of course, they are ill.

They closed, it's a friend who works there did the pre MOT and they were told at the beginning of one day that they were to be shut from that night.
Since the pre MOT check the horn has decided not to work!
It's crazy I am trying to book it in but the nearest place I can find who is on and operating as normal is almost an hour away, I will have to wait whilst they do it so putting all of us at risk, I am trying to work as work is essential to animal welfare, I will need to check that they can sort the horn before I head off too.
It would save so much potential risk if I did not have to do this and all for 3 days on the MOT.

yeah but they made a fuss about doing it 'cos of covid' + a collection of them wearing more PPE to do so than a lot of the NHS can manage ATM.

twiggy it's such an unnecessary frustrating situ that didn't need to happen, I saw someone asking on one of the police twitter threads highlighting it as an issue but don't think they got a reply.

You do have to know that area, as I do well, passing it regularly. It is a small area and it is close to high density housing. It is by a disused quarry which is now a big industrial estate housing the HSE and others.

It is NOT an appropriate place to take a dog or yourself for a walk and I have no problem with resuming dying of it.

Not far away, however, is the Goyt valley which was almost deserted yesterday, very few gates, room to social distance on all paths, where it would be a maximum of ten minutes drive for the people of Macclesfield, Buxton and Whaley Bridge to walk themselves and their dogs, but the car parks are shut and notices up to tell people to go home and, imo, that is wrong.

Yup, we had the first inkling of this today. Our yard is the other side of a single track lane from our house and garden. But to those who don’t know the area this wouldn’t be obvious that the owners live so near. I was out of sight during jobs when I heard a vehicle stop on the lane. Then a man got out and walked out onto the yard. When I appeared he suddenly touched one of our haylage bales and asked if we had any for sale. He then drove on and later was asking a neighbour about the terrier she was walking. Luckily I managed to get his reg number and have warned neighbours.

"We have had 3 yards in Stretton on Dunsmore broken into, Also Hunningham, Frankton (oil poured over horses). Large quantity of tack taken from near Market Harborough, High Street Ryton horses had oil poured on them. 2 lambs butchered Monday night at Brinklow and two missing from Harbury but now found. Horse feed stolen from Birdingbury and four yards done in Earl Shilton. Take your tack home!! They are also stealing hay and bedding."

For what it's worth I can't find anything in the news about horses being attacked recently.
