warning be ready for a rant cos im sooooo angry .

went for a hack this morning on jack, having a nice ride first on a back road then on a busier road all going well even a cement lorry stopped and turned off his engine without being asked !! a bit further down the road a black ford focus came speeding round a slight bend at god knows how many miles an hour put my arm out to signal to slow down didn't work so i put my whip out and asked jack to shoulder in (so it looked like he was moving into the middle of the road normally works a treat) still didn't work as car goes past i mouthed idiot and shook my head i noticed it was 2 police men in the car. next minute the car had turned around and put his blue lights and sirens on !! thank god jack is so good. they shop me ask me to dismount then go on to lecture me about safety (i had a fluorescent yellow tabard on saying please pass wide and slow on front and caution young horse on the back i had put it on the wrong way by accident should be other way round. and jack had a fluorescent yellow tail guard and boots on) by now jacks getting pissed off as blue lights still flashing ! i point out to police man that it states in highway code that you should pass a horse wide and slow and that it shows in the highway code what my hand signals meant and because of his lack of common sense my horse spooked and that he should know better. asked to move somewhere safer by now several buses and Lorry's as well as cars where waiting to pass . he said it was safe ?? he then asks me for jacks passport !!!!! i said that he has a passport at home and that its not required to be carried when hes being hacked out. he insists that i should have it so i say "what you gonna do impound my horse?" he then give me a producer saying i have to take his passport to local station to prove that i have one for him or i will be arrested. luckily one of the lorry's waiting to pass was my husbands employee. the lad Gareth who drives it is built like a brick sh*t house he get out and asks if everything is OK , poor man thought i'd had an accident. police then let me go thank god for gareth.

so just been to police station to make an official complaint and show passport. but just to see i took teds passport and showed that teds a skewbald and jacks a grey. they said thanks for showing it and that nothing will be pursed !!

so this proves that the police are d**k Heads and passport are not worth having.

OMG- surely you cant be expected to carry your passport out hacking?
It seems like they knew they were in the wrong and were trying to think of a way to justify it!
I would be making a complaint!

I hope you got the Policeman's number and if I were you I'd complain!
Almost as if they wanted you to be hit by a lorry or something.....surely that is harassment!

got his number and have made a complaint. gonna go check on jack in a bit he was really shook up, and sweating like mad bless him. north wales police are very keen on anything to do with drivers .that they can get money for. but this is taking the mickey. also when i said jack had a microchip he didnt have the equipment to check (didn't think he would but he should have known his facts before having a go).

OMG!!!! That is shocking

Complain.

Passports only need to be carried when transporting your horse, not when hacking it out as I'm sure you know.

I would also push & ask what right they had to stop you.

Make a complaint immediately and go to the local paper as well, don't let them hush it up.
Now just a suggestion, hope you won't take offence, but your spelling is not up to your riding, so when you've written to the local paper, either run spell check on it or get a friend who spells better but probably doesn't ride as well to check it over for you! LOL. Got to have the press take you seriously. Angle for a photo. Offer to take Jack back to the very spot and be photographed looking shocke (you) and alarmed (Jack)
Demand compensation!

Im not surprised with the silly targets that the police are given for the amount of tickets they give out.
Plus the law does say you have to be able to produce documents for your horse, BUT how funny! bet they would notice if the car regs were different on a document production!!!!!!!

This will be one of those fantastic tales to tell down the pub!

Thats outragous!!
I would also send a copy of the passport stuff thats says when you have to have your passport...I'm pretty sure it's not for hacking out!
I would make a complaint about their driving and their behaviour once they stopped you, IDIOTS!!

That is ridiculous. I'm surprised they didn't want Jacks hoof prints to go on record!
It sounds like the policeman didn't like being quoted with the higway code and decided to be difficult. We had something similar when a policeman stopped Hubby for not wearing a seat belt when he had been. Because hubby argued with him the policeman put hubby in the back of the police car and crawled over the car trying to find something.
I would make a complaint to the station about their attitude, placing you in a dangerous position and scaring a young horse.

The law is all horses have to have passports and has been written that you can be asked to produce at any given time im afraid!

Definitely put a complaint in. I know the North Wales traffic police are notorious for issuing speeding tickets but your experience is ridiculous. I agree with others who have posted, think they knew they were in the wrong and just being difficult because you didn't grovel to them!

COMPLAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there is no way on this earth that i would dismount to get told a lots of inacutrate boll*ocks.

I hope you took note of their number and YOU DEFO MUST phone and try and speak to the Chief of that police force.............

Now you got to keep us informed...........

There was another thread somewhere on here, about a Police car passing horses at speed and with blues and twos going. There is a regular poster on the forum who appears to be a Police Officer and he recommended reporting the incident to the Police Authority concerned. It seems the Police themselves, even when responding to an emergency call, must abide by the Highway Code and a failure to abide means retraining for the Police driver.

I have never had trouble on horseback, but have had enough dealing in the past with regards to firearms to know that some Police Officers will make up the rules as they go along, if it suits their purpose.

but whats worse is that they didn't notice that i showed teds passport ! quite a difference between a skewbald 6 month old cob x and a grey 11 year old irish draft. not a good photo but spot the difference

sorry quite big photobucket has gone down

Yes agree with all the above post complain. I asked an ambulance driver what directive they had re sirens and lights when passing a horse and rider! He told me NONE. the previous day my friend and I were riding up main road FIRE ENGINE full on sirens lights. Then decided a car was in way they went other side of bollards approx 90m.p.h and kept hand on horn. Horses both reared and tried bolting. They could have caused a very very bad accident. They were going too fast for a pedestrian on the other side to even get their number. The police sound like they were in an unmarked police car and from what you said had no reason to stop you and make you dismount. If you got their number complain if not use local paper.

You have my full sympathy, never in 54 years on this planet have "I" met a bright copper yet, I'm sure they have to have an NVQ in being thick to get in the force, lets face it, any body with intelligence isn't going to go in the force to start with, as they have to work with their hands behind their backs with all the goverments Political correctness crap forced on them, so I am slightly sypathetic for them as well, you may notice that the asian community dont seem to go in police force, lawyers, doctors, solicters ect, yes, but not a copper, why is that do you think, anyway they sounded a right pair of pillocks.

What a bizarre situation, strange policemen - did they have nothing better to do?

Have never had a problem with police whilst riding - in fact once had a panda car scream past us on a bend with sirens and lights on........they turned lights and sirens off as soon as they saw us - then slowed right down. The next Panda car came past slowly with no lights or sirens on as the one in front had radioed to telll him there were horses ahead!!

Was very impressed with Essex police that day

What a totally ridiculous and stupid comment to make. You and the OP have both slated the police calling them idiots or similar.

Nothing like generalising is there? Offensive!

Definitely complain and go to the local paper. It's disgusting behaviour on their part IMO. I think you did very well to be so polite, I would have lost my temper I'm sure. And there is no way on earth I would have got off my horse either.
There were many offences caused by them, driving dangerously in the first place, then turning on sirens which was completely uncalled for, not obliging when asked to move to a safer place.... need I go on.

hubbys on a course so i cant contact him about it yeat .hes great when it comes to the police, have the police car got black boxes ? so i can prove he was speeding
