Storm Amy..everyone ok?

Windy and wild in Wiltshire (pleasing alliteration there!). My biggest issue is the acorns. We have an oakwood all along the back boundary including the back of my stables. It's all taped off but the waving branches/wind are shooting them everywhere. Worst is the overhanging branches over the back of the stable block, the acorns land on the pitched roof and shoot off in all directions, all over the yard. I'm having to feed extra hay to keep the horses occupied, because otherwise they just snuffle for acorns the whole time.

Acorns hurt when they ping off your head! It sounds like a gattling gun out there, with them pinging off the metal roof.

My bro lives just off The Wild Atlantic Way in Donegal. He lost his coal bunker last night, which had 80kg of coal in it!

Chickened out of riding this morning. We are not in the storm area, just wet and windy…..but too windy for my liking and the showers, when they arrive, are heavy.
But of a pain because I’ve not ridden all week and I fear that T will be a bit of a live wire when I finally get back on him.

Actually calmed down a bit overnight.

Was wet and blustery first thing, but no more than usual. Was supposed to pick up again between 10 and 12, but luckily I'm at work and Mr SC is on pony duty!
It's still windy here but the rain is coming in blustery showers with spells of bright sunshine in between. I've just been out to top up the field water (!) and not got at all wet. Horses are standing under a high stone wall, saying "no, thank you" to the hay I've put in the shelter. I'm leaving them to it!

The rain was bad yesterday, lots of water on the roads. Windy today and the rain has slackened off but the wind was stronger until recently. Not seen much damage just minor flooding and small branches down. Haven't ridden, just fed windfall apples into the pony.

The wind only really picked up here overnight (off the north of Scotland) but the rain started late yesterday afternoon and it was bad. Just managed to get ponies in and they have showed no interest in going out again. My haffie usually would be wanting out by now but the noise of the wind and rain is obviously not appealing.
75mp gusts forecast until tomorrow morning but since we have very few trees there’s not usually much damage.

There’s no travel off the islands today and don’t think any boats will be going until Monday.

Horses are fine….my trailer isn’t!!! 😭

Stupidly didn’t put the handbrake on, it’s on a flat piece of land but clearly the wind took its fancy and it’s rolled 10 feet down a nearby slope and into a small wall 😩 the only thing that stopped it was the jockey wheel digging into the grass and the small wall, jockey wheel is all bent but it’s still working ok so I think we had a very lucky escape!

Lesson to everyone, put the break on your trailer when it’s a bit windy! 😤🤯

It’s windy here but when I got up earlier the yard concrete was dry, I don’t think we had much rain at all and it’s been dry all day except for a recent blustery shower but I don’t think it was enough to really wet the ground again.
I had trouble poo picking as my wrist wasn’t strong enough to get the poo picker from the floor up to the barrow in the gusts of wind 😂
We appear to have got off really lightly.

Battered here and the powers gone out already, also something went bang outside.
Modern technology brilliant though so carrying on with our lovely weekly TV catch up on the lap top!
Weve got my crotchet blankets for warmth plus g and t
We've got a gas hob so we will have coffee for later
I mean, that sounds quite lovely!

Son’s smaller pony pitched an actual fit when we caught her to go hacking this morning instead of to arena hire as is usual on a Saturday. Think she probably understands why our usual lunchtime trip was cancelled now - there is no way the jumps would stay up!

Theu are both in their shelter scoffing hay! Even though I’ve given them fresh grass this morning - the hay is too good I think 😆 they need to learn to save some as their waistlines are not telling me they need more and they still have plenty of grass - it’s far too early in the season for them to be eating a bale of hay per day between them. Both are on a diet as per vets recommendation and I don’t do complete starvation but there will be a lot of soaking hay going on if this continues to slow them down! Whoever thought the mare who was once very obese and is now the slimmest and on the most work would be the one most unrestricted and have the most grass?! How things have changed!!

Well my friends yard had a tall sycamore tree in farmer’s hedges . It’s now flat on the field. Broke a fence. But no more rows about sycamore seeds. It’s gone. Thank you storm Amy
Farmer refused to cut it down. She is so so happy it’s now gone. Farmer said he will repair fence but not chopping tree up. That’s ok. Firewood next winter. We will all chip in and move dangerously leaves and such. It’s taped off for now.

I just opened the big doors to the stables and both girls ran away to the back of their stalls 😂 tbf the wind and rain was gusting right in.

Fluffy cat got swept past the door when we came in just now. She fortunately found her feet and got inside. 🫣😂 We’ll see how long she stays in.

It's blustery down here but that's about it. We all had to sit some spooks in the indoor arena at this morning's clinic but it's very well maintained so pretty good. Driving back though when the gusts were at their peak made me realise I wouldn't want my 3.5 tonne out in really bad weather.

Came home for lunch leaving ponies doing laps as we hit peak gusts. Started by the microcob who is definitely a fair weather pony! My OH came down to help me shift some aubiose bales and was in just the right place to grab a ladder & hammer to fix a stable roof that was starting to flap around.

We've definitely had it easy here.

Either I've turned into a wimp after a summer of no storms or Amy was worse than forecast. We were only supposed to get 63mph gusts but it seemed much than that and has certainly caused plenty of damage. Our electric was off for a few hours last night then on and off until lunchtime, we are lucky though as there's still plenty of people been off since last night. I've a small tree down across field gateway but no real problems but my mum's lost some ridge tiles and next door neighbour had a panel in her conservatory blow out and resulting damage. There's also a large, think 6ft, part of tree come down in lane to field. I'm just glad there was no one under it when it came down.

Thankfully it's calmed down today.

You know what they say about 'ill winds'. This proves it.

@Nancykitt
I was thinking of you in this storm. Hope you are okay. I believe you are where it is rather exposed.
Believe it or not I’ve been working in Englandshire this week and started my journey back home yesterday evening, stopping overnight at Abington services. It was a bit wild on the motorway to say the least- but the worst stretch was Inverness to home, which was brutal. Did a bit of aquaplaning and it scared the life out of me! 😬
Back home now and apparently the horses have been fine. They’ve been fooling about in the wind, trotting around and bucking!
So it looks like the only issue is no internet (currently on 4G on my phone which is pretty rubbish). It’s howling here but not as bad as we’ve known it in the past!

I was thinking about you all up in Scotland glad everyone is fine. We have been okay here staying indoors.

I hacked out today. Very blustery. 50mph winds. Not as bad as some other areas.
You’re braver than I! I’d constantly be worried about a stray horse-eating crisp packet on a day like today! 🤣

ETA: not terrible in Derbyshire, some torrential downpours yesterday, drizzle and wind today. There was, however, a bucket at the wrong end of the field but that was the extent of damage 🤣. Cob even bothered to canter and buck!

It's been horrific here but horses all fine although one managed to ditch his brand new rug in a puddle. It had elastic leg straps which had loosened and I think the the wind got under it and he just reversed out as it was still completely fastened up! Many roads blocked by fallen trees or flooding with tarmac washed away.
