Storm Ciara weekend plans

Reposted from last weeks thread - I guess I should add 'buy a calendar' to this weekends plans! Thanks TFF ;).

Assuming the weather holds I'm booked into a pole work clinic on Saturday, luckily sharing with 2 friends so if we spend most of the session on two legs it won't be too disruptive . I'm not sure which two legs it's likely to be, I'd prefer the back ones as her rears are tiny and well balanced - she just carefully sits back and hovers there for a few seconds ?.

I'm picking up my puppy on Saturday ❤️❤️❤️ I'm a wee bit excited.

The big lad is having a lesson on Saturday with another livery, who is a much better rider than me! So it will do him good. I'm hoping the little lad will take a hack or something, but if not he will have a nice day out in the field. Sunday I have lessons with both of them, in between gazing adoringly at the puppy and also watching for wee warning signs ?

Scratch that, cancelled due to the storm . I'm seriously considering a move to somewhere 20*c and dry all year round.

My mare must have seen the weather forecast and decided she didn't want to do any work this weekend, so she has decided to pull a shoe off.

Daughter is entered for BD on Sunday at a very exposed location with only outdoor arenas . Last time we were in this situation the venue (a different one with indoor arena) cancelled due to the danger the wind posed for travel. I'm hoping this one will do the same otherwise she'll probably withdraw and loose her entry. If we could teleport there she can cope with doing her tests in less than ideal conditions, but travelling in high winds is a different matter.

Oh pants, but understandable with the forecasted weather ?
Very understandable, I'm not sure how long I'd last on her in those winds!
This is pretty accurate at the mo:

Saddler on Saturday and lesson (at home in indoor school) on Sunday. Otherwise hibernating. Can’t stand windy weather!

Good luck to those trying to venture out...

Saturday looks ok here, so if it's still fine we'll be riding, if the rain ahs started then will be holding 2 ponies for clipping.
Sunday looks wet and windy so nothing ?

We have a cyclone up in the Kimberley (NW WA) here, so that might push some rain around Australia. Not in Perth though even though its way, way north of us. it'll travel inland towards the east coast. So some of Aus will feel your storm pain!

here though we have perfect conditions, and I am being a demo rider tomorrow for the pony club coaching school to show how to retrain off the track horses. I'm a bit excited about it although Henry may be slightly over enthusiastic.

Tonight I'm going to hack, and then i have to make a cake for a friends baby shower. Sunday will be hacking both horses I think and catching up with a friend.

Have fun all, I am so looking forward to the weekend.

For once, I can share your storm woes (excitement?). There is RAIN, actual RAIN forecast every day for the next week. With 79km of active fire front 20km from us, everyone is celebrating and hoping it comes to fruition.

I am excitedly planning which rain rugs to dig out :P I hope there will be some small breaks for some quick rides. L had her saddle widened a bit last week which has made a noticeable difference so will crack on with some serious schooling now. E the TB had her SI injected on Wednesday, she's on a week in a yard/week in the paddock and then will start working her and see if it has made a difference. I *think* I can see some subtle improvements already, so hope it isn't just my imagination!

Have a great weekend all, I hope to post real mud pictures soon!

I booked in for our first stab at a Novice dressage on Sunday...then i checked the weather forecast. Forecast gusts of 50mph and it’s an exposed venue. I’m hoping they’ll cancel because I’m not boxing up in that
Note to self, check the forecasts first next time ??‍♀️

Hack Saturday morning, hope its not as windy as last week. 40mph winds, everyone was amazed we'd gone out but horses were faultless. Was supposed to be picking a horse up for someone on Sunday but looking at the forecast it will be weekend after.

Jumping lesson tomorrow for me (weather not looking too bad, moderate winds) then nothing probably on Sunday as the weather looks much worse!

are the fires still raging northern? Not so much media coverage at the moment. I can’t imagine how long it will take for things to recover.

F has taken a while to get over the cellulitis. Box rest for nearly 4 weeks in the end. He was amazing in the circs, just got a bit more bite-ier than normal! Been able to ride for 2 weeks though so am slowly getting us both back into a routine. He’s totally forgotten how to bend, sigh.

Hacking sat and out Sunday so no riding. Sounds like it’s just as well if there is a storm coming. Hadn’t checked the weather !

I think the fires have been pipped by coronavirus ;)

The fire in our Park is still classed as out of control, it is still burning quite erratically even in mild conditions. It is expected to burn the whole park out unfortunately, the terrain is too inaccessible for direct firefighting. In terms of threat to the city, it has abated for the moment and the firies are working on containment lines for any future flareups. Hopefully this weather system is the first of many to return some moisture to the ground :)

Hope F gets his bends back soon!

Well we were meant to be off to dressage on Sunday.....but the weather being what it is, there is no way I am towing in that! Let alone trying to warm up in an exposed outdoor arena!
Incredibly, even though everything else has been cancelled, even the local hunt, the dressage comp is still running! Insane, and money grabbing!

We are still clinging to the idea that it might not be that bad on Sunday for our arena hire but I suspect we will just end up rebooking for the following week.
To be fair, lots of dressage venues are also livery yards so they often have internal customers to please as well as external ones

Even the local bloodhounds have cancelled Sunday's meet and they're hardcore. Box up to hack tomorrow and grid clinic boooked Sunday which is at the top of a very exposed steep hill so even if not cancelled won't be going. Have a big heavy truck but expecting trees to be down and just not worth the risk. Horses have had a quiet couple of days as six monthly jabs were done Wednesday afternoon and I've been laid up with one of the gastric bugs doing the rounds.

Believe me, the liveries that will be doing the dressage don't ride in the outdoor arena at the best of times, let alone warming up out there in a gale!

We're doing our first dressage comp of the year tomorrow. My first start time is 9.20am and we need a good long warm-up so I'm not looking forward to the early start, but at least we should be home before lunchtime, and the wind isn't meant to be bad until later. Lesson on Sunday, which is going to be interesting in the outdoor arena at the top of a hill! There is a kid's lesson on at the same time and they always get the indoor arena.... Just hearing the instructor is going to be a challenge!

Well I've contacted the venue regarding tomorrow's polework clinic and it is still going ahead, so hopefully the wind doesn't pick up too much for the drive.

So pleased to hear you have got some rain coming your way @Northern

Having checked the hourly forecast I may manage to get out Sat AM after the dogs have been to the vets. Hope to be out and back my lunch time as Dad has asked me to clip his cob for him.... His cob really, really doesn't like me. I may die.

this is the same for me too - all other events for Sunday seem to be cancelled but not the dressage! Will be keeping my eye on their FB page and website in case it's a last minute cancellation but it's increasingly unlikely I'll be going!

I am not riding at all this weekend I have decided I am too sick of the rain and wind to put myself through it, one is very slightly lame anyway and the other has been ridden all week so thats my contribution for this week and I am sticking to it.
We are house hunting so might have some viewings over the weekend but apart from that I am indoors, I have plenty of food, gin and wine so that's me sorted.

I've just cancelled my lesson on Sunday as winds are due to be around 50mph. It's only 20 mins down the road, but its through some very un-sheltered areas and I just don't think I can take the risk. Gutted though, was really looking forward to it :(

@Pinkvboots I think you have the right idea, keep yourself toasty with a good wine, you'll no doubt feel much better for it!

hack out hopefully tomorrow , working sunday , will turnout as normal depending on how bad the wheather is , likey may have to have odd duvetday and work him in the indoor maybe , lorry having new ramp fitted next week

I feel good tonight as, since being alerted to the impending storm on here, I booked onto a pole work clinic tonight. She was OK, but we stuck with walk and trot as she has not been in an arena with another horse since September. She watched with more than a little interest as the others thundered round, and even did some jump courses at the end. Will do the same again next week and get her doing more on her own too.

What with the dressage lesson on Wednesday (where she worked very hard) and the pole work clinic this evening (which was more like a social outing) I won't mind too much if we don't do much over the weekend.
