Stay safe everyone! Putting my horses in today at lunch time
There's a red weather warning for my area now![]()
Horses, on the whole, aren't stupid - they won't stand under trees in high wind - mine always stand out in the open when it's windy - safer than in a stable to my thinking albeit I'm lucky not in a red area for DarraghI’m not 100% sure what to do with mine in a red weather warningbring them in and there’s potential for things on the yard to fly about, leave them out and there’s trees etc. i think they will be in but I’m going to have to do a run around and look for anything that isn’t bolted down this afternoon

And that makes all the difference although it it was stables with trees round them or field with trees I'd go with the field. I'm assuming there are areas of the field which are open, horses will choose themThey unfortunately don’t have much choice with the number of trees we have!
I feel you... I'm a mile in. Just been strapping everything down and trying to make sure everyone will have some shelter that's not dangerous. Husband is putting silage stack netting over the old greenhouses to try to stop rogue glass panes becoming ninja death starsI'm about 8 miles off the coast in West Wales, I'm actually very worried about this one!
I agree, I never have mine in during storms, too many trees that could cause damage. And that makes all the difference although it it was stables with trees round them or field with trees I'd go with the field. I'm assuming there are areas of the field which are open, horses will choose them
Just heard that the local Charity Santa Ride is still going ahead on Saturday. It is absolute chaos at the best of times, so maybe someone might actually die this yearPersonal responsibility is always king of course but events shouldn't be encouraging risk-taking either. Bonkers.
Honestly, the stories I have heard about previous years I already wonder why people bring tinies on ponies at all but doing it this year would be something else. Sad as it would be for the charity to have poor turnout I do hope people make the right choice.I read that on Fb earlier, that is just idiotic IMO, and very irresponsible. And the mention of kiddies on ponies being led etc., for goodness sake would anyone risk their child in the sort of weather that is already here and worse to come.![]()
Same here. And we're travelling tomorrowThere's a red weather warning for my area now![]()

It's very calm here, eerily so. Managed a nice hack earlier. We're about 12 miles off the North Devon coast so I'm expecting it to be bad, horses are well rugged and will be left out. As always when it's windy I will be worried about my shelters blowing away, which would be my worst nightmare!
We're also high (just off the moor), everything has survived all the storms we've had over the last couple of years, our shelter is anchored with concrete posts! We are about 15 or so miles, so a bit further in but high up and exposed. Storm Bert took a neighbours mobile stables and dumped them in the lane. Luckily our stables are in a big block built barn.
We have a red weather warning too from 3am. I'm bringing everything in tonight, sheep included. We had flying pieces of roof with storm Bert which seems pretty tame in comparison to what we are about to get![]()

Steerpike that's where I am too. We must be sort of neighbours (in Welsh miles)!I'm about 8 miles off the coast in West Wales, I'm actually very worried about this one!

Ditto I'm really worried about what's coming. My ponies are in their stables but with the doors secured open so they can escape back outside to the field if they need to.
I'm set up for a power cut with a torch, lanterns and candles and phone on full charge. I'm on my own here tonight and tomorrow, just the dogs for company, the wind is already picking up and roaring outside, it's going to be a long 24 hours.
