Storm Dennis Weekend Plans :/

I had an amazing weekend! Two really great lessons, we were ready for the next step in our training and we really met the mark and went above that!

Show jumping was Saturday morning and my coach had a serpentine of 3 jumps set on the arena. Before we got jumping he had me practice shoulder in and travers and then talked me through half pass. It's time to step up the flat work and I have been told to get spurs, we need the refinement now. So exciting!

So with that in mind we talked through the serpentine exercise and what I expected to happen. Henry is weaker to the left so I thought he would get the change over the jumps from left to right but struggle the other way.

I was so wrong! We have been working hard to getting him strong and straight on both reins and it paid off. He landed on the correct leads second time through the exercise and managed to complete the serpentine correctly most times through. So proud of him!

Then XC was Sunday arvo and I really wanted to ask him to step up. He just feels so confident at the moment and he was so happy to be there. We challenged him with jumping into water. He has mastered a small step down for a while, so we added a jump into water, a bigger bank into water and a big bank out of the water. Easy for him!

We also tackled some bigger solid jumps and he cruised around with no issues and he has done his first brush too.

I am so proud of my kid, hes come on so much and I love working with him! I have been having so many moments were I don't recognize myself as a rider and were I never believed we are where we are now.

I can't wait for the first event of the season in just over a month. i think 65 is going to be too easy but I need to get the dressage more relaxed!

My Friday pole work clinic was called off, but we had a break in the weather and managed a short Friday hack. Saturday was turnout only while I did clearing of mum's flat ready for sale. Sunday I did manage to get a half hour slot in an indoor school and Finn was appreciative and FAB. We did stacks of canter, including canter poles, and even our first (tiny) jump of 2020.

This morning is a 2 motorway trip to the farrier. Eeek, as it has been blowing all night. The forecast says it is only about 22mph, so I will go early and go slow.

Dressage clinic on Wednesday is still on though, really looking forward to that!

Buzz had the weekend off as he was vaccinated Thurs and he takes a while to recover, lucky really as I couldn't get out of my house Sunday as all the roads around me were flooded! No route out to the yard at all, all the local roads closed or underwater. Yard manager checked everything over and all were fine but I didn't like being shut in all day!

I can add a couple of photos from when we did an arena hire a couple of weeks ago instead :)
