Storm Dennis Weekend Plans :/

Welcome WineOClock.

Battening down of hatches here too. Sorting out my mountain of dusty kit and looking for new storage ideas for whatever I decide to keep. Am moving yard in a few weeks which has triggered the need to spring clean and obv buy sparkly new containers for the new digs. New stable has a fab little indiv storage section at the back which I can kit out how I like. Am more excited than I really should be about that!

Tack shop trip as well but mainly to visit the cafe and have a mooch about as I need NOTHING new.

Windy hacks in between, unless it's tipping it down.

well... last week's Sunday dressage show was postponed to this saturday

I doubt they will postpone it twice. The forecast is strong gusty winds and lots of rain but clearing in the afternoon and I'm not on until 3 so I'm keeping fingers crossed that dennis or derek or whatever his name is might be over by the time I need to travel. The show is also quite close to home for once so plan would be to leave it until the last minute, travel tacked up and ready dressed to ride including my hat and jump on for a quick warm up lol

if weather OK then I have a lesson sunday

Is it outside???

After a work week with lots of travelling (so no riding), I was looking forward to a weekend of riding as Danny has barely done a thing since our comp on Saturday. I’d also hoped to get my 3yo in and bathed as he should be picked up next week to go to Spain for training.

Strong winds and rain are due to arrive here at 8am on Saturday and continue through to Sunday evening so I foresee a weekend of pub!!

My BE arena eventing has been cancelled due to low entries - BOOOO! Not broken the news to Brieze yet but I imagine I'm going to have a stroppy horse on my hands.
In light of the weather it's probably for the best and I wouldn't have travelled in it anyway.

New to the Forum so just using this as an opportunity to say Hi.
welcome to the forum. Great name btw. And you picked the best thread to start with IMO ;)

Well I got a break in the rain today and got Kira ridden. She felt *awesome* yesterday evening, she was so up for the work, almost back to where we left off last year (some things better, like me being able to sit on my bum in changes ;) some things needing a bit more practice, like the iffy right canter piri)

Back to earth with a bump today. A pheasant was sitting on top of the hedge honk-squawking away and she absolutely lost her mind over it. Total hysterical (welsh ) meltdown. I am normally the first to defend the welsh brain but she really went 100% full on for the stereotype today :p it took an hour to undo what happened to her brain and be able to just walk/trot/canter round the school without slamming the brakes on and freaking out. Holy cow. I wasn't going to school her tomorrow but if the weather is not too mad I think I will have to!

Welcome WineOClock. Love the look of your boy - a character as well as beautiful!! I only get to help horsey friends these days but even I have had enough of all this water this winter. Dog walking was bad enough today - took as long to hose him off as do the walk.
If anyone sees 4 unusual Horsemen riding close together this weekend - would you mind warning the rest of us!!

This feels like the worst winter ever
I’m having a second attempt at getting out for our first BD show. Weather looks like the first test might be possible, I may bale before the second one though as it’s two hours later! Fingers crossed as he may not forgive me if he is all dressed up with nowhere to go. Again.

Hope everyone survives the storm.

I'm just gritting my teeth and getting through it. Daffodils are out and ponies are moulting so as far as I'm concerned, spring is just around the corner.

I might look into some indoor arena hire just in case though :p

Will ride tomorrow then he can have the weekend off, I might ride which ever day the weather is meant to be better as he's just had 2 days off so might have turned a bit psycho by Monday!

It's been damp, rain and humid all week :D All fires have now been contained which is super exciting and stress relieving!

Take a look at this! Proper wet! Proper mud! I almost fell over three times :o

I am actually up to something this weekend, going on a 10km fun endurance ride with a friend. We will both just walk and enjoy the ride as both horses haven't been in much work. Will hopefully be nice and relaxed! And is local :D

Also possibly will be acquiring a proper towing car this weekend :) This will let me get out and about so much easier and safer. Fingers crossed it all goes well!

Hope Dennis isn't too horrible for you lot, keep sending the rain this way ;)

Well, if people are after a place that it basically never rains I can recommend Perth, Western Australia. Warm and dry basically year round. Sometimes we get 10mm of rain in a day! That's exciting when it happens. Other than about 2mm of rain it hasn't rained here since October or November. I don't remember! And while it can be hot it's actually not that bad at all. I've been in the UK when it's been about 23c. Thats was yuck! Here it's nice and dry and not humid and so much nicer as a result ;)

I no longer have any weekend plans for the foreseeable. Discovered this week that my rising 7 yr old has quite bad right hind pastern arthritis. She’s going back to vets next week but trying not to get too hopeful of ever being able to do much :(

Sorry for the doom and gloom, feeling a bit sorry for myself

I'm not in the UK but have been desperately trying to get my horse out for his Medium debut. I have so far been thwarted four times. First time late last year - got an abscess. Second time (in January) - dressage association deleted his profile in error so couldn't enter. Third time - rained out last weekend after torrential downpours for the day. Planned for this Saturday - horse now has a virus.

So instead will take my grey boy for a hack and maybe jump a little bit too. He's had 7 weeks off so though he's back in work now, is still seeeriously unfit.

I'm very sorry to hear that :(

So sorry to read that ?. I had to retire my dressage boy last summer with suspected neck arthritis (he’d had fetlock arthritis for a couple of years) so I fully empathise. Fingers are crossed for you that you can treat it and carry on x

That is very sad news, sorry to read that.

Looking back at photos she’s had a bump on her pastern for a long time. So she’s been managing happily on it for a good while without pain relief. I’m holding out hope that it’s been irritated by the mud this year and has almost fused by itself and may just need a bit of help. It’s hind pastern so prognosis is better. Still a bummer though :(

Another weekend of survival, and praying that PSSM pony can cope with staying in for a day or two. Need to get him exercised as he's had two evenings off this week due to me working late but conditions will be atrocious. Was supposed to be photographing our yard monthly stressage comp on Sunday but I can't see it going ahead, and if it does I will not be risking my camera!
