I haven't got the monitor OH has it which good as make the wind sound twice as bad. I'm now curled up with the dog next to me as he is terrified. I dread to think what the morning will bring

Put the dishwasher on to drown it out... didnt work!!

Give you a giggle?
About half hour ago I was out running around the cul de sac chasing recycling around the road... Luckily I heard it go over, but the tins where making a right noise.... it was like trying to catch 20 gerbils the way the wind was blowing it about!

Just started pooring down in n shrops again, I live in the town where the roof was blown off the building that was on the news. We had v bad wind on Wednesday. I lost the ridge tiles on my Stable block, and the caravan nearly went over, rocked quite a few times but thankfully remained upright overnight, i hope nothing else goes tonight, wind is really roaring outside :( loads of trees down still from Wednesday, let's hope things start to settle down after tonight don't think can cope with many more sleepless nights ! Poor Ned's are just about fed up, two gone down with mud fever this week, had hoped I would get through without them getting it but appears not! Least they can stay in whilst its so horrible - stay safe everyone

Just had a scary drive back from my daughter's (babysitting duties!). Tree down across the main road, several of the lanes are flooded and there is debris and flying branches everywhere.
The rain seems to have stopped temporarily but the wind certainly hasn't.
Wonder how many more trees will be down in the morning?
I think this is the worst we have had so far, I am in Sussex near Ashdown Forest.

They are evacuating houses near us as many of the coastal areas are now underwater. We are in Dorset and it sounds horrendous outside. My girl is stabled and I'm worried about the tin roof and can't sleep :-(

Hope everyone is ok, billabongchick keeping fingers crossed for u. Led in bed , winds are whipping round the house , worst I have known. Hoping my 2 will have sense to stand in middle arena if there is a problem (they have access to yard, shelter and arena) roof was rattling as I left yard tonight and neighbour really worried about hers as it is even more exposed. On the other hand we r lucky as no flooding yet

I'm hoping the roof to bens stable will hold out, I've not been able to get up there for the last two days as I've been really poorly, but it's already had to be nailed back down twice, the other day it was quite scary as no one else was at the yard and I was trying to tie it down to the hay rack and the ring ties in the stable with lead ropes just to give it a bit more support until uncle r came and did his thing! I actually got lifted up twice doing this :/ but in this weather there is no chance of doing a proper fix, not with these winds. I got home from the drs earlier to find the fence panels about to go flying, one side still fixed and the other across the pavement with all its nails sticking out and the two fence panels either side were dangerously loose and about to go at any time! In the end, I made the decision to park on the pavement as close to the fence as I could to 'brace' it, and when my dad came back he did the same so far this has worked! hope to god the cars aren't too scratched tomorrow :( I know one isn't supposed to park on the pavement but it was far safer to do that than risk the panels hitting a car driving past or a pedestrian or even flying across the rd through someone's window :( the weather is wretched, porthleven harbour was a mess and all the rds shut off when I went to the pharmacy after the drs, they said on the news that after today things should get better... I hope so for everyone's sake. I was watching the one show yesterday about the man and his family who were trying to save their house. they built a dam around the entire property and were pumping water out every three hours, he said they had built it 2 ft above the highest recorded floods, and if they hadn't built the dam it would have already been well under water... I hope they are ok, that story really touched me, they were showing such spirit and resilience.

Still a raging storm here... I just haven't slept. I have 2 in and one out (I usually only have one stable, am temporarily renting a second ). .. hope the one out has managed ok. I will bring her in today and find out whether the two littlies will share a stable. The ones who are in are in a big stable barn so should be fine.

We are lucky though. Roads are a nightmare - ditches overflowing but no houses locally flooded.

But 10 miles away it's a different story with lot s of flooding, homes and businesses flooded, roads shut . Terrible.

I'm awake now and still listening to the wind howling around :( being in Northamptonshire on higher land and pretty much middle of the country very rarely do we get the extremes - however even for us last night was awful :(

There a part of me that's dreading the drive to the yard as I don't want to see the destruction this weather must have done... Last night I was emptying and widening drainage channels to try and keep out indoor barn stabling dry and free from water , and sweeping out the water as it tried to flow back in.

I can't begin to imagine how horrendous it must be to be properly flooded :(

I hope everyone's horses/ stable roofs/ etc survived the night

Sitting here half delaying the morning yard visit, half my garden fence has gone, my shed roofs have lost their shiplap and the water is lapping at my front step, dreading the yard as my field is surrounded by huge trees and i have already had two down this wk, only just secured the fencing to stop the ponies getting out. Was debating keeping them in last night but they had been in all day and are far safer out where they can stand in the middle of the pond which used to be my field.

I live in lee on Solent, right on the south coast seafront just west of Portsmouth - kept waking up in the night with the noise, even my 2 year old daughter who sleeps like a log woke up crying at 2am :( my old mare is on full grass livery and I'm straight off up there this morning to make sure she's ok - I know the YM would tell me immediately if there was an issue, but sometimes u just have to check with your own eyes! Hope everyone and their horses are safe xxx

We got battered last night - power went off at 10.30pm, and stayed off all night. Wind was unbelievable. i was very worried about the barn, which is a very old timber framed historic building. It's supposed to be being restored imminently before it falls down, as its seriously rotten - so I was half expecting it to be flattened this morning.
Absolutely fine - not so much as a tile off the roof.

Horses are fine too. Had two in and two out, and both sets were their usual chilled out selves this morning. Except Alf, who was a snorty, fire breathing dragon - but thats normal for him when its windy!

It's still howling out there :( woken up to a tree down in our neighbours garden, and another neighbours greenhouse has smashed and the glass has flown all across our patio.

My OH has just checked the ponies and says they are ok and I will head down there in a bit to assess the damage, no doubt fencing will need to be repaired.

Hope everyone else is ok and staying safe.

Hope everyone is safe and well - humans and animals.

We've had ridiculous winds all night here in East Surrey and they're still blowing. Our neighbour's fence has blown into our garden but not too much else I can see from the window atm. I'm sure we have a fair fee trees down around here though. Our 200 year old oak tree in our garden is just standing there as if to say "Yeah? What's all the fuss about" while everything around it is blowing and waving and flying!

We haven't had much rain overnight as the cloud cover has been moving too fast. Let's hope this all clears up soon :(

We had it really bad night before last, a tree came down on our house, another tree just missed the chicken shed. It took 3 and a half hours to get home from work due to road closures. I had left the horses out as the stables have trees behind them. I had to park up at a neighbours farm about half a mile away and walk the rest of the way climbing over the trees that had fallen across the road, in a suit and heels. (not the best look) All the time the snow was coming down. Then no electric for a couple of days as the trees had bought the power cables down. Thank goodness for a camping stove :) All alright now, just waiting for somebody to come and fix the roof before too much rain comes in

After weathering many storms and gales over the years, the old barn at the livery yard finally keeled over last night and is now at a crazy angle, but thank heaven it didn't take off altogether. One side has lifted about eighteen inches off the ground and touched down again on a hay bale! Praying the wind will drop a little so repairs or a rebuild can be done.

Didn't sleep a wink last night. Don't ever remember winds like that before. Sounded like the roof was being ripped off!

Horses all ok this morning although VERY spooky and silly. Cupboard I keep grooming kits etc in is in pieces and my bin cupboard door has gone!

I was very relieved that our stables were still standing this morning and at the foot of a rainbow. I can't say I slept very well last night as we are right on top of a hill and pretty exposed. One of the neighbouring estate trees is down and across our garden fence, but luckily it is still dog proof. Other than that we seem ok. Unlike my poor friend in Bucks whose large field shelter has collapsed like a card house. Thankfully her horses are ok and lucky that they weren't shut in it. Keep safe everyone. x

A lot less wind and some glorious peeks of sunshine!!!! Yay, just been told our window blew out of our touring caravan last night but if that's all we have to worry about, that's great! Horses are all fine up at the yard, the worst has definitely passed! I'm feeling so much better than I was yesterday too, the world is looking up!

You guys are having it really bad. Here (west Ireland) we've had plenty of flooding - non that affects us badly apart from being cut off on both sides of the road and the bottom part of our field flooded, and we've had a couple of storms one which brought a tree down on the road. The south has been hit very badly with gales (150km) and terrible flooding. This makes for interesting viewing (I've put a link to the Earth Wind Map at the end of the text) Stay safe everyone and I hope this is the end of the worst:

'The US National Weather Service's Global Forecast System keeps track of the world's weather. It's an incredibly valuable repository of information, but its data, shown in DayGlo charts peppered with numbers, isn't the easiest to visualize without a degree in meteorology. That's where the Earth Wind Map can come in handy. It takes the the Global Forecast System's data — updated every three hours — and applies it to a zoomable map. The result is a beautiful representation of the world's wind in almost real-time.

Earth-wind

Like the US-specific wind map created by designers Fernanda Viégas and Martin Wattenberg earlier this year, Earth Wind Map is interactive. Click and drag the globe and you'll spin it in place, then wait a few seconds before the data appears in the form of snaking lines. Gentle breezes are thin strands of green, strong winds are long streaks of bright yellow, while the strongest currents are an angry red. Take a trip around Earth Wind Map's globe now and you'll be able to compare the light summer winds currently wafting across northern Brazil with the swirling gusts off the north-east coast of Japan, a hypnotic and colorful reminder of our planet's wildly changing weather.'

http://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/orthographic=-26.15,49.23,512

If you click on the map in your general area it will give you the wind speed in km/h

It was a very windy night here in Coastal Suffolk, and it doesn't seem to be dropping at all. The power keeps going off, but so far not for any great length of time.

Just off to check the fencing and feed the horses.

The winds here in S.Glos last night were the worst of the winter, no damage at home or the stables thankfully, but have heard of some houses losing all the fascia boarding and guttering just up the road. I didn't sleep well at all, I like to have my window open and the noise was awful but when I shut it, it seemed like the wind was drawing all the air out of the house so had to sleep with the noise rather than feel like I was suffocating!

As the sun came out this morning and my horse couldn't care less about wind, I decided to ride....big mistake!!! I honestly don't think I've ever ridden in winds that strong before, my lad behaved impeccably but I actually thought I was going to be blown off!!
