Hey,

My pony has developed some sores, one on his withers and one either side on each shoulder they are about 7 inches by 4 inches and the one on his withers is only and inch squared. I am not sure how he has got there's i have been through everything i can think of.

1) He hasnt had any different food, he has been on the same for years same as with his suppliments.

2) He is wearing all the same rugs that he wears every year, that havent rubbed as no grease or hair is on his rugs.

3) It's all washed in the same washing powder.

4) It's not from his saddle because i hadnt used his saddle near the time these developed.

5) He's not on any kind of different bedding.

6) He's not with any different horses.

7) He's not been washed in anything different.

8) I dont leave dirt, sweat, sand etc on his body.

So i dont know what this could be from the only thing i can think of, Is he is normaly clipped each year just a blanket clip which leaves the hair were his sores are but this year he hasnt been clipped out because he is still recovering so im thinking maybe because he has all of his hair still and is being worked a little that maybe he's getting to hot and it's making sores ?

Any other ideas about this would be brilliant as i cant think of anything else.

Thankyou

See im not sure if it is because he has rugs that dont sit on the withers there either half necks or full necks and he doesnt wear a rug all the time so im not sure :/

Paige look at your rugs when they are on him and you will see that the neck folds in on itself to follow the shape of his neck when his head is up. The patches on his shoulders are a dead cert for a rubbing rug and so is the one at the wither. It's got nothing to do with being hot or worked, rugs just do this, more with some horses than others. And it's much more noticeable when they aren't clipped. What do you mean by "sores"? Surely the skin is not broken, just the hair rubbed away?

Hey

I have looked at his rugs and moved them in the ways he would when he rolls and moves etc, and no rugs go where his sores are as he had rugs that are designed differently. The one on his sholders are definatly not from his rugs as where the sores are i know for definate that the rugs do not touch them as it sits on his muscle and theses are above his muscle. I have spoken to the vet and it is a heat rash where he gets to hot so now it has put my mind to rest that all his rugs are fine for him :)

His sores started off as lumps on his skin so i looked through his hair and there was a tiny bold patch and then i saw that it got worse so i cut it all away and found that he has bright red pusie skin and then i found a little one that did have broken skin but all in all i have put some cream on them every night and every morning and he gets the air to it in the day and it seems to be getting better :)

Thank you for every bodys help its been briliant
