Struggling in The Mornings ....

I have been well used to it now for what seems like an age! I wake up naturally just before the alarm clock at 5am...same routine so no worries of struggling to get up!

Know what you mean...its so much harder to get up & out in the dark with the wind & rain battering against the window. I know it sounds a bit sad but i set my phone alarm with a message to try & motivate me to get going in the morning. I also arrange to meet a friend a couple of times a week to ride early...then I'm obliged to get moving so as not to let her down.

Well, what gets me up is the thought of them standing by the gate waiting for their breakfast, churning up the field! The longer I leave it, the worse it'll be:(

There's nothing worse than waking up in the dark and hearing the rain hammering down on the roof! If you have an iphone, I swear by the "sleep cycle" app - it wakes you at your lightest point of sleep so that you wake up when you're almost naturally ready to. I didn't believe it would work and only got it due to the hype, but it really does! I feel a lot more awake using that than a normal alarm clock, I use it every morning now and have noticed a huge difference.
In winter I always keep the curtains closed when I get up so that I can't see the horrible weather ;) Do the horses and come back in to open them before work!
I sometimes try to wake up a bit earlier than I need to, 15 minutes or so, just so that I can shuffle downstairs & make a cup of tea & relax a bit before I go out to face the rain - I find that really helps, but I rarely get the time to do it - it's more of a weekend thing when I have no work to go to but the horse expects me at her door by 6!

If you have a smart phone of some kind you can download a really good alarm clock app that detects your activity while you sleep by putting the phone under your pillow or somewhere (it works if you share with partner too), then it will wake you up when it senses you coming out of deep sleep within a half hour range that you set, it also tells you how much time it thinks you are spending in REM etc, its interesting and I woke up feeling WAY different to the groggy zombie I usually am! It's amazing honestly!

I believe the one I had was just called sleep cycle on iPhone, have new phone now and this reminds me to find it for this one :-)

I put my alarm clock over the other side of the bedroom. Then I have to get out of bed to turn it off, then I need a wee, then I'm up and functioning!

Only works with the clock the other side of the room though. Otherwise I just keep pressing 'snooze'! lol

I am struggling too, I have to set my alarm a good half hour before I really need to be up so I can come down, have a leisurely coffee while watching the news, coming on here and facebook! I can't get up and dart about rushing it doesn't work for me!

I actually quite enjoy the early mornings, even though I have an uphill walk to the farm through pitch black fields :p. I always have a cup of tea before I go, and some crumpets, and I'm in such a good routine now that I naturally wake up at about 5.30am (alarm goes off at 5.50am). I do go to bed quite early though, unless I'm doing bar work the night before. I try to be in bed by about 9pm normally, although last night I was working so didn't get to bed until midnight. Still feel fine today though, think I'm a morning person!

Same here - or the thought that if I dont shift my backside then the stable is going to be trashed, if in

I just thump the alarm (5.50 on work days) roll out of bed & drive to yard do chores & come home for shower & cuppa. The mornings I hate are when I'm delayed by ice-scraping :( or worse still; snow!

TFF, getter-upper :)

Baby collie come and jumps one you going 'I'm hungry get up!' A second after the alarm goes off!

Tho it is tempting to go back to bed when you come down stairs and see bob the rabbit flat out asleep in his cage(well his empty litter tray in his cage he uses as a bed!) and doesn't get out if it until 9am at the earliest.

Did you know that if you don't get up and see to your horses on cold wet mornings, Santa won't deliver any of your presents!!!

Santa knows if you're being good or bad! Just remember that next time you doze off while the animals starve and melt in the rain...

:D

Absolutely couldn't live without light up alarm clock. They're expensive but make a massive difference. I lost mine in a house move so currently cheating with cheap timer-switch plug thing, cheap lamp with normal eco bulb in. they light up slowly and it's just the same! Worth a try for total cost around a tenner rather than splashing out. makes huge difference.

Must try harder!! :)

I am most definitely not a morning person, but have 3 yr old child who wakes up at 6.30am every morning demanding breakfast, so have no choice but to get up! Always feel invigorated in the mornings though, once I've got back from the yard.

Just had to bump this one :)

Thanks both of you, I had no idea such a thing existed until I read this thread. Installed Sleep As Android and used it last night. WOW! It woke me up half an hour earlier than I usually try to get up and I bounced out of bed this morning with plenty of time to get ready for work :D:cool:

Next project, one of those DIY dawn simulators :D:D
