Stuck on a Livery yard we don't want to be on!

I did wonder if it was just a mix up in communication, especially if done over text.
YO might have actually meant you only need to pay up until 16/10

The text chain is:

Me: Hi (Insert name here) after our discussion earlier regarding me leaving the yard. I now have a leaving date for you, I will pay you my months notice (25th September- 25th October) and leave on the 29th September. Once again thank-you for everything.

YO: You start your months notice from today so your leaving date is the 16th October xx

me: Can I not just pay the month? So the money for the stable is paid, there just won't be a horse in it?

YO: I will talk to you on Wednesday about it, I'm away at the minute xx

That reads to me that your payment will be pro rata'd as 'ihatework' suggests?

Actually I think you have read into it something that wasn’t there.
I think it’s a perfectly professional response from YO saying you only have to pay to 16th

I will update the thread when I have spoken to her tonight. Hopefully she is going to let us go and I just pay her until the 16th which would work out cheaper.

I hope I've just got it wrong, there is no logic to us staying if I'm willing to pay her. I will update the thread when I've spoken to her tonight

Texts can be so easily misinterpreted, don't panic - I'm sure it just means that you only need to pay until the 16th. Defo update, hope all goes well with the chat :)

Someone I knew, had similar thing years ago...she slowly over a week took all her stuff away, just left tack and tatty feed bins with few days feed ...YO never noticed, and then in a Saturday, tacked up, put hivis on moved her car into a lay-by with remainder of stuff, said she was going on a hack, and round corner, her friend was waiting in the lay-by with the trailer they had hired. They moved and YO went ape...but she was all paid up. YO was a little hitter

YO's message reads to me as she is saying you need to pay to 16th Oct, as you gave notice on 16th Sept. Nothing there suggests she is saying you can't move your horse on 29th Sept.

I would relax about speaking to her tonight, it reads like she is telling you that you only have to pay up to the 16th. No kidnapping of your horse at all! It sounds all above board and it is always best to leave on good terms.

Surely if you've paid a month's livery and YO has this money in her hot greedy little hand, you can leave when you please?? I don't see why not! She has no possible hold over you if you decide to move your horse when it pleases you!

I'd give her the two-fingered gesture if she tries to tell you that you have to "serve notice on the yard". That's a load of shate and she knows it! Don't be bullied!

Personally I'd be getting your horse out of there as fast as you possibly can. You don't need to tell YO when you're doing it, just get on and do the deed, it is NOTHING to do with the YO what you do with YOUR horse from here on in; I'd be inclined to just text her, words to the effect of "just to let you know XXXXX was moved today". However, you would be wise, very wise, to quietly and surreptitiously clear out your stuff before you move your horse coz else you might find things "walk"........ I'd be doing that quietly at a time perhaps when you know she's not around (neither are her spies!!) and then just (having fixed up alternative livery) keep schtum, simply roll up and move your horse out.

Exactly, from the texts it sounds like she's being perfectly reasonable and saving you a couple of weeks' money OP!!

Tough, if people are leaving maybe it is time she took a look at the service she is offering, an empty yard does look bad but that is her problem to deal with not yours, if she was so concerned an improvement may have kept you there.

this-what is she gonna do call the police?? just make sure when you move you have a friend with you for back-up-well done for doing something about this-your poor horse!! just make sure next place you double check everything will be done etc-no going from the frying pan into the fire!

Update as promised!

Spoke to YO! Although she is fine with me moving next week, she was trying to say my bill was more than it was! After looking over it with several people I have now worked out exactly what it is and paid her the monies due. Can’t blame her for trying but no one over charges me! I’m too much of a tight ******* 😂😂

Well you've lost me now. You were going to pay till 25 October and she said no, it's a month from when you told her you were going, so pay to mid October .... how is that overcharging you?

She was trying to charge me for services I didn’t use...like lunging my horse and rug changes that I did myself.

Ok, but you were prepared to pay full livery till 25 October and not be there .... which you now don't have to. Has she overcharged you for services before? Tbh it doesn't sound like a full livery package to me.

Yes but that doesn't mean she can get away with charging me for services I haven't used just because I'm not going to be there?

She has done in the past yes, just small things like rug changes and taking off his overreach boots and putting them back on for turn out. Small things that the girls might do just to be nice but shes charged for if shes seen them doing it.

My full livery package is:
Muck out & 2 skip outs during the day if the horses are in
Turn out/bring in
feet picked/legs hosed
feeds made and put in
Nets made and put in
10 mins lunging if the horses are unable to go out due to weather (PLEASE NOTE: The lunging she charged me for was not because he was unable to go out)
Medicine Administration (If required and the horse stands. If the horse is difficult the owner must do it)

I find it bizarre that full livery doesn't include boots on/off and rug changes.
Even when my liveries are DIY I'll check them in the field midday, have a feel of how warm they are and adjust rugs if they are too hot/cold/whatever. There can easily be an increase of 15 degrees between when liveries do their horses first thing in the morning to what its like when the suns out in the middle of the day. I'll add that I run a very small yard and my liveries have always been happy with this and I text them to let them know if I've made any adjustments.

I would expect to pay extra for medicine administration, unless perhaps it was rehab or retirement livery.

my yard has 40 horses on :) I have had rug changes included in the past on smaller yards but not this one unfortunately :(
