Today when my new farrier was putting stud holes in my horses shoes he actually..(this is going to be really hard to describe lol) .. put this twisty thing through the stud hole and wound it up and down so there is pre-made groves for the stud hole to skrew into. Now my previous farrier never did this and just banged through a hole with a bit of metal and left it, therefore it was really hard to get stud holes to skrew in the first few times they were used. He also put some oil (not sure what) onto a bit of cloth and stuffed it into the hole for me then put the shoe on. Does anyone elses farrier do this or just my old farrier never bothered? x

That is quite normal

Yep, mine does all that too - I wouldn't have let him leave the yard if my stud holes weren't threaded!

Its called 'Tapping' You Tap a stud hole, but the thread into it.. and might I add... its a bugga to do if you dont know how and they are really easy to snap!

You cant put studs in unless the holes are tapped? So youve either missed your farrier tapping.. or youve been lucky not to loose your studs..

sounds like your last farrier was lazy!! they should be threaded!!! Damn hard to put studs in with just the blank and no threads being made lol!!
