Hi all,

Hoping you can help me out in trying to figure out which (if any) studbooks I can register my 4.5 year old with.

We bred a foal from my ex event mare 4.5 years ago and after doing some research I wondered if it was possible to register him (the offspring with a stud book). I don't know very much about breeding info/ studbooks etc. but I have the following info below and think he may be eligible for AES (not sure if anything else?)?

He was bred in 2010 by a KWPN registered and graded stallion. The stallion is also approved and graded by AES. The stallion's recorded breeding lines go back many generations. I have a photo copy document of the 4 generations of the stallions breeding from KWPN.

The dam was a registered ex racer TB with Wetherby's and also has recorded breeding lines that go back many generations.

I have a covering certificate from the stallion owner with AES at the top and is completed except for the vet id sketch markings.

The offspring was sketched, microchipped, passport (Pet ID Equine) after he was weaned.

The mare is only registered with Wetherby's so I do not think she is known by AES? Unfortunately the mare is now deceased so I can't provide any DNA from her nor do I have her passport.

Would I be able to obtain proof of breeding from Wetherby's direct?

Also from what I can gather from the AES website he will be eligible for the stud book provided I enclose all these documents and a letter from my vet stating that they can confirm that the offspring was by the dam (which they can vouch as can the stallion owner).

My questions are can I register the gelding with any studbooks? And what do I need to provide them with?

I was going to call them tomorrow but hoped some expert breeders on here might be able to help me out beforehand.

Thanks in advance :D

Best to call the stud books in question to get a full idea of what you can or can not do. I do know that if you get a passport from the AES you can then get it over stamped by other stud books eg by SHBGB so you can enter showing classes and as the stallion was KWPN the warmblood breeders would also accept but best to give them a call

If the he is a gelding what is the point of the exercise. The AES would register him with breeding if you were applying for a passport as they can pick up the mares breeding from wetherbys and her DNA would be on record. The issue you will come up against is that nobody can legally issue another passport for him so you are stuck with what he has now. However I still cannot think theres any benefit in the exercise for a gelding.

hiya,

I'm looking at entering him in age classes (british eventing) and they seem to say that all horses must have proved dam sire, dam and sire breeding and a regular commercial POI passport such as a pet id passport is not sufficient evidence of breeding. They say it needs to be over stamped by an approved studbook? I hope this makes sense :/ I read it on the be website here: http://www.britisheventing.com/asp-...ts+British+Eventing+Young+Horse+Championships

Whoever you go with the breeding cannot be put on a pet id passport and it would be illegal to issue another passport for him so talk to the AES as they will overstamp the passport and may verify his breeding for you. They will be a lot easier to deal with than any other breed soc.Talk to the BEF as well as they may be able to suggest a way around it. You only need documentation that he is by a graded stallion it does not necessarily have to be on the passport or actually registered as such

One passport per horse so you cant now get a breed passport and as popsdosh says you cant add in breeding details.

Out of interest why did you not register formally in the first place??

The KWPN provides a breed certificate if horse is registered with them, that's proof of lineage but doesn't touch passport.
