Studs. Advise me please.

Tbh I was wondering about some little hind studs for showing on grass ;) is that a thing? Lots of slippy slidey rides going on at my local county show last year :o

I used to stud for everything behind and added fronts for dressage and kept them in if there was either no cut in the ground at all, or if it was really greasy.

Basically the purpose (as well as keeping horse the right way up ;) ) was to give confidence :) if you do not fear slipping and the horse trusts it's footing, you tend to ride with more purpose and positivity. You can make better use of the dressage arena, maintain balance and power in the sj and stick to tighter lines on xc.

It's personal choice of course but I far prefer to stud cautiously for everything than go without.

This, I tend to use one in the outside of the hind as a minimum on everything to give both the horse and rider confidence in dressage, tight turns on slippery hard ground can have a bad effect on the confidence and prevent the horse going it's best, for sj the same to assist with what can be tight turns, I do at times take them out before xc depending on the ground/ horse/ course but prefer to have the help if required as it is too late once you have started.

Some small studs behind for showing will be fine just to give the horse a bit of help on tricky ground.

Ah thanks bp I will request some stud holes then. Never thought I'd be studding old Millie again, I sold all my eventing kit :rolleyes3:
