I only have one type of stud - I buy them in bulk and they seem to work for most ground, although they say for hard ground but they definitely worked at Richmond eventing yesterday. They are Stromsholm TS high studs with a tungsten core.

The whole supastuds site is quite good - their stud catalogue also offers a description of when each type would be suitable.

I would suggest having a chat to your farrier about it too, as he will know your horse so would be able to suggest the best type and size for different conditions.

Having had two studding injuries eventing I try to avoing the studs with the tunsten tips and when possible go square and as small as possible, for SJ I'm happier to go pointy
