Stupid people you encounter on a walk!

The answer to all these issues seems so simple, only have dogs off lead in public spaces if they are friendly and have a solid recall. If another dog is on a lead then put yours back on a lead. Don't hang around wanting strange dogs to make friends with each other - no one likes being forced to socialise. These are rules I have always used ( my boy can stay off lead around other off lead dogs, my girl can't as she's too friendly and lacks doggy etiquette no matter how hard we try) this seems like common sense but I guess that as common sense isn't very common that's where it all goes wrong.

its the amount of neutered male dogs that are reactive to entire male dogs I've met recently that staggers me. Having not had a male dog (neutered or otherwise) who is reactive against other males I've found it surprising. Both of mine are unneutered and non-reactive but Quarrie doesnt appreciate dogs right in his face and Fitz is nervous of such dogs. is it because entire males are the more unusual these days?

I wonder if alot of this stems from the fact that many are castrated at such a young age these days, it seems to be the done thing to neuter at 6 months when the dog is neither physically or mentally mature.
I have left my WCS entire..no issue in the gundog world but if I bump into idiots they are often baffled by the fact he still has his bits!!

This, oh god this, I hear you. Ditto Pucci too.

I perversely love this time of year as almost no-one else walks their dog in the dark; armed with the world's most dazzling head torch we are still on our usual schedule, only without a single numpty to spoil it...!

I was wondering about this yesterday afternoon when we were out walking ours. We live out of the village but on a popular dog walking route - since the clocks have gone back the amount of people walking their dogs up here has reduced by about 90%. What do they do, just not walk their dogs in winter?!

There are dogs in town that come out on very sunny days during summer that I have often never seen before. They are usually quite fat and not groomed also.

I also have a retina-wrecking headtorch lol.

maybe they get a dog walker to do a daylight time one? who knows.

I know people at work who just dont-when the clocks went back they proclaimed their dismay at not being able to walk in the local park. bearing in mind this is a local park in a very genteel Borders town I can't work out why they cant walk there lol. Mind you, some are horrified I am out in forest in the middle of nowhere on my own in the dark.

Yep - a good, common sense approach (and one I adopt myself) but as they say, common sense is actually not that common unfortunately!

If only people actually did... would have saved me a lot of heartache, worry and vet bills! Dog walkers are a huge problem where I live... large groups of dog all off lead with no proper recall-thats how the accident happened. IMO Dog walkers should all have their dogs on lead unless they are in a private enclosed space... harsh maybe but you can never tell how someone else's dog will react... especially if it's a new dog.

And today's rant (although not limited to just today as it is a regular occurrence) is those people with the ball lobbers who even though you have clearly altered your course with your on lead dog to give them a wide berth start making a bee line for you and Chuck the tennis ball right across your path so your on lead dog obviously wants to chase it and play with their dog that is charging around having a great time. Would it really be so difficult for them to take a different route across the large open field or heaven forbid just not throw the ball for a few minutes!!!!

One of the huskies was on his back legs the other day as I was trying to turn around and walk away from them and yet they still kept coming towards us as I'm trying to drag him backwards away from them!!!!

Really pisses them off whe you have a steady gundog that doesn't react to the distraction - love the puzzled looks on their faces!

And probably much safer than being in a local town! I tramp the farm at night with a headtorch, although on moonlit lights there's no need for the torch and it's just beautiful and so so peaceful

Walking same dog this afternoon we had 2 off lead dogs following us for 10 minutes with owner haplessly shouting of them, the spaniel was just generally running around amusing itself but the lab kept making a bee line for us, I finally lost my temper and shouted at her to control her dog and she gave me a mouthful for walking a dog that I couldn't control without a muzzle! My dog was on a lead by my side the whole time but apparently I'm in the wrong. She also claimed that she doesn't need to stop her dog running up to others because "their dogs" FFS!!!
